Aye, that record lap at the IOM alone deserved some sort of official recognition.

But that was just one highlight in an outstanding career. Good man.

Yep. Fuck that shit. I pooed my pants just watching that lap. Long time over due. Anny is a fucking hoot too. Bruce would surely win the worlds most laid back road racer hands down.

What was he thinking letting that beard grow? - he looks like he's been lost in the bush for 30 years. If he cut it off he'd look 30 years younger. Top bloke though as crasher says.

Fuck me. This thread has had over 120 views, but what...less than ten replies? To the fucking wankers that viewed it, but didn't respond and/or congratulate one of New Zealand's best ever road racers, go fuck yourselves and remove yourself from a motorcycle forum that's about motorcycles and those brave enough to race them. Fuck me this site has taken a sad dive.

aside from anstey's riding ability, the thing the sticks in my mind the most is he is the only person ever to say fuck the arai sticker/logo, my patritoc symbol takes pride of place on my brain bucket.
no-one else to my knowledge has ever done this.
well done that man

Well deserved. Good man.

Looking at the period of NZ racing he came out of, specifically the short spectacular 250 production era, I don't think so many good riders have come out of any other period.

Indeed. I was privileged to have been involved for a wee bit back then. Incredible times, and Bruce is incredibly talented. Hope he wins heaps more before he hangs his leathers up.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

I dream of the day where Bruce Ansty's name (or any of our other champs that keep NZ on the map) name is a recognised in every house hold in New Zealand.

Dreama
15th April 2016, 08:43
It's always a buzz when watching the IOM footage each year to hear 'Anstey's' name come up, and they almost always clarify he's from NZ which I imagine is mostly because Bruce flies our flag with such pride ( even though keeping that gay looking union jack thing sucks, but ...) ...... anyway, well done Bruce Anstey, one of the few Kiwi motorcyclists still up there at the pointy end in international racing.
They do all seem a bit weird though, those IOM and Irish road racing stalwarts ... just say'n !!

I was brought up in a road racing country, this man's name has been up there with the greats for years, awesome to see NZ giving him the recognition he thoroughly deserves.

You've got to succeed in business and have a very high profile in NZ and on TV before that happens....At least, the one whose name i won't mention for fear of upsetting Crasher....Is usually referred to as an ex NZ Champ motorcycle racer.

Wow. Incredible. I'm surprised, not because he doesn't deserve it, but I didn't think the powers that be would have the ability to recognize what he has achieved.

Maybe I'll be lucky to see him in action in person one day. I certainly hope he doesn't hang up the leathers for a long time yet.

And speaking of pictures..Bruce had many on his camera that a lot would get excited about. You're into electric motorcycles no? He's on his way to Montegi to test the new Mugen bike. And his boss has a new Honda RCV street bike there...they may set Bruce loose on it.

Chill, not everyone who rides follows racing.

Truth be told I had to think - hmmm who? I know that name somehow ........

Yeah - bloody fine effort and nice to see it awarded but just like half the people getting awards the response will be the same by many - who?

Which in itself is not a bad thin - just think how many non riders have googled Bruce this weekend.

Has Aaron Slight been awarded anything in NZ? Followed him for years with his very well respected international career.

Yeah good on him, and I wish I had 1/10th of his skill and balls, but like you say just cos we ride bikes don't mean we follow racing. Its like saying everyone who drives a car watches Bathurst.

On ya Bruce!

Well overdue... 10 IOM wins and barely a mention in the coverage here... staggering achievement and he's barely known.

It's weird really, TVNZ's monopoly on sports coverage is long gone, so why are we still stuck with blanket coverage of rugby rugby rugby rugby rugby rugby netball golf america's cup rugby rugby rugby netball olympics maybe and perhaps just a spot of motorsport and then it's back to rugby rugby rugby?

Anyone on the forum got some firsthand experience working in broadcasting scheduling? Keen to know why Bruce's home country hasn't been following him along the way.

Probably lack of interest from advertisers. TV is after all about the dollar bills, not the entertainment. The amount of absolute rubbish on there is testament to that fact.

Sports commentators are rare in this country, almost non-existent. We have rugby, cricket, or netball commentators. When NZ first became involved in the Americas Cup I heard one of these guys boasting he knew nothing about yacht racing. At that time I'd already got a book out of the library so as to have an idea of the rules and a basic understanding of what was happening. Sadly these people are not very professional.

At the risk of upsetting Pete by mentioning another rider; Barry Briggs won Sportsman of The Year in Britain but not here.

I was surprised and delighted to see Bruce at Govt House on the news. I do note from the photo though that even Bruce knows not to drink Pete's coffee.

Doesn't upset me in the slightest. People take every single post as if I'm being serious, but those that actually know me, know it's pretty rare for me to be anything of the sort. Always way too hard to convey via a cunting screen and a keyboard. And it wasn't my coffee he was afraid of mate. It's the beer fridge! Bruce had a very messy night whilst on the Steinies with us many moons ago!
