So I am thinking of buying a new bike.
Have a VFR 800 but I'm pretty keen to get a few more ponies on tap. Looked at a few of these k1200 BMW's online. Prices seem reasonable. Can anyone tell me any first hand experience please?
Ones like this:http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/tourers/auction-1061566628.htm

Hehe, a few more ponies aye?
I'd probably look at a K1300, slight improvement, new release on the 1200. S or R? Both have turbine like delivery power.
A friend had a K1200S, ABS module shit itself... $4k later... Not the cheapest bike to run (typical BMW I guess) but very enjoyable...

Mate had a K1200R that I rode quite often. Rather choice - grunty, smooth and nimble.
Lower top-end power than the S but more bottom end.
I used to be in to the top-end horsepower figures when looking at bikes, but in fact the only time I really got into the top end was on the track.
Conversely, more torque down low, I use all the time.

When picking up my VFR in November I rode back from Tauranga to Wellington with someone who had also picked their bike up in Tauranga. All I can say is that they are certainly fast and look very nice but have a terrible headlight. You will suffer if you do a lot of night riding and are used to the VFR double beams.

-edit: it may have been a custom headlight so unsure if this applies to stock.

Phleep, that's a boxer motor so I'm guessing an R1200R. The K is an inline 4.

Ahh, whoops. Certainly explains why my my Google-foo didn't quite match. It was definitely boxer as you say. I'll scuttle off and hide now...

Hmm, might change my guess to an R Nine T...

According to the owner it was a 1200. your guess appears correct http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/bmw/94970-bmw-r1200-nine-t-2014-a.html. That is the bike exactly - except for a gold mesh over the headlight and a modded engine shield.
edit: apologies for thread hijack.

A mate has a new k1300r. Very fast in a straight line and holds a line in the corners forever. He has added jack up plates to improve turn in. I have ridden it a fair bit, not my cup of tea, but he is very happy. Tyre hungry when ridden with enthusiasm.
