Ok...looking to pick some bikers brains......
My Yamaha FZ1, is 10 years old.
But for the past two weeks, I haven't been able to shift, when stationary, from 1st into neutral, unless I turn the engine off..
Once the engine is switched off, neutral can very easily be selected..but when the engine is running, NO CHANCE!!!
My friend who is an engineer, hasn't been able to find anything on line about this particular fault, or what might be causing it..
All ideas are welcome..

Chain tension? If the chain on my TDM is just a little to tight the gearbox turns into a sack of hammers.

It can be excessive endfloat on the selector drum. Given that it's positively located as std, pulling the clutch off will allow access to the drum end and show if anything's loose. And allow the indexing mechanism to be inspected....
Could well be a bent selector fork.
Can also be the same fault I found on an FZ750, a gear on one shaft is pressed on to a certain distance. This one wasn't which gave selection problems.
