Just a quick shout out. My bike rego was put on hold and I can't justify rego-ing it cos there is only one week left before I can rego it again. I have had to come back from my job overseas to look after my son who has been diagnosed with the big C. Cancer. Anyway, if anyone can lend me a bike on the North Shore, Auckland anything - for next week (2nd - 6th May) - it would make things much easier. I could service it for you - and show you how if need be - the following Sat if you like (as long as it is not too modern with computer tech).
Cheers ...

There is one week left. You would pay three months' worth for 1 week? I have to save money ... not waste it.

if you go in to rego it now and there is only one week left on hold then you will find the rego will start from the end date. go in and ask them to check for you. has worked for me in the past, technically if you ride it before the date it is still on hold but who's gonna check

Buy the time you have put full insurance cover on said borrowed bike, which I'm sure you would do, as you obviously wouldn't want to just hand a broken bike back with nothing more than a feeble "sorry" it would be cheaper & far less inconvenient to generous strangers to just sort your own fuckin shit out without making it all everybody else's problem.
We all have dramas in our lives, it seems jumping on the 'net for a bludge is the way to deal with your problems these days.
Thank fuck I wasn't raised like that.

Just ride it for a week and don't park it on the street ,ACC. don't mind waiting a week for Your money. It's $150 and 20 points if a bobby catches You. Don't do any thing silly and You should not get caught. Just don't worry to much about it.

russd7 is right, you can register it "now" from the point the hold finishes. Technically it's not registered, but you'll have a label that says otherwise for Traffic wardens etc.

Weird. I'd have thought if you went in today to rego it they will take your money but the label's rego date will be effective from next week. As in not registered legally this week but kicking in next.
Sorry to heard about your child.

My mum died of cancer when I was 8 years old, so she said fuck all. Still nobody gave me a motorbike to use, although it would have given my crushed childhood spirit quite a lift.

When you put it on hold, there is a 3 month period in which IF you re-register your vehicle, THEN you have to backpay for the entire period from when you placed it on hold (even though you haven't used it since then).
If you register it today, your cunning plan will be in vain. Sadly.

Yes. But my currently registered bike say expires on the 10th on next month. I can go in on Monday and register it for another XXX period that will start from the 10th.
If it was currently expired the same system should also allow me to register it again starting from the 10th. Not legally valid until the 10th and the rego sticker will confirm that.

Fuck it - I willl rego it today. Bus is 1.5 hours extra time (one way) wasted that I could be with my son. Bike journey to job is 15 mins each way.
you can rego online for 1 month, Which is like ~50$ (138 for 3 months I think). Not sure, if the requirements are different if taking off hold

Why do people who don't understand licence exemption always feel the need to make stupid incorrect comments on the matter?

Why do ignorant people who have nothing to contribute to the conversation keep posting on the internet?
I just did my rego yesterday at VTNZ. doh.

They are different when taking it off hold, it has to have been on hold for at least 3 months; otherwise you have to back-pay those three months.

Every now and then i look on here and the same bullshit mis-information is being bandied(?) about. rego, lanesplitting or what constitutes a good oil, this is the last place to look for advice.

Yet here you are again........ jump in the pool - it's a good cross section of the motorcycling public.

Correct. It should allow that, but being a gubbinment department it will not be that "user friendly".

To be fair the best advice was to just ride it, don't park it where wardens will check etc for the week....but just like bad advice, good advice can be ignored.
Don't see you handing over your bike keys either though, funny that.

i don't understand why he has had trouble, i have registered early, off hold, a few times, most was with 2 weeks before the three months was up and it still started from the date the three months was up. I do always get them to check before i do it tho as i did get myself caught out once when i didn't check first.
but with the bike i "might" have occasionally used the other option of riding and not parking in town. gets bloody difficult when your nearest LTSA agent is half hour away

I wrapped my head in tinfoil, lowered my I.Q. to single digits, shoved a sparkplug up my arse and thought of Taupo before posting. Did it make any difference?
