Hi, my Honda cbr250r is quite a solid bike I seem to think its better than the newer cbr250rr mc22? Any info about these or other 4 cylinder bikes of the same era? Appreciate your input in advance cheers

Hi, my Honda cbr250r is a solid bike which I seem to think is the best(fastest) bike of its time? Anyone know how to get extra HP out of it?

How old is the bike, and what's the service history?

If you need more horsepower (which is doubtful) get a bigger bike. Mucking about with an old bike usually ends in tears.

New air filter (aliexpress) clean rebuild and balance the carbs, and thats about all thats worth doing. All the power is up the top end, there is next to nothing below 8k

Yes been in nz since '06 regularly serviced clean as engine for age, previous owner had it for 5 years and installed alarm so its a goer but want more out if it before I upgrade, had it for over month now, could probably hit 180 in 4th-5th....

Why doubtful? I have seen some putting out over 70 HP and I weigh 110 kilos so its not as much boost.

It's a 250. You're not going to get 70hp for more than about 5 minutes until it spectacularly explodes. And it's ancient.
Buy a bigger bike, and remember torque is what makes you move, HP is what makes for pretty numbers in sales brochures.

Im parting an mc17 if you need bits ;-)
I also have an mc17 im slooooowly rebuilding. Bit rough around the edges but I doubt I could let it go, such a fantasticly fun bike. Not the fastest by any means, but theres just something about how they go, the sound...

The brutal honesty stings...
To the OP, by all means service and get (or keep) your hand grenade bike running sweetly, but the old adage "no replacement for displacement" springs to mind

Right, take the carbs off and jizz into the intakes. You'll need to do each one so you might want to have some oysters beforehand. Or just get your mates to lend a hand. It'll help valve sealing.

...I may try that...should the engine be run beforehand to bring it up to temperature and if you have a little dick, like me, should I use a funnel and should I bring that up to the same temp...???...does this work on european bikes too?...

Many years ago now, I serviced one of those (no, not in the manner suggested, you with the dirty mind - I know who you are....) for a new owner.
I checked with the shop he'd bought it from in case they wanted to do it but they didn't have any worries...So did valve clearances, oil and filter, synched the carbs...as you do.
A week later it had thrown a rod. The shop who'd sold it came back to me and said WTF did you do ? After I'd gone through exactly what and how I'd done all I'd done to it, they looked closer...
The tacho was reading 2000rpm LOW...The new owner had regularly taken it to the 18 grand redline...which was actually 20,000 RPM...

Once in mint running condition you may see some increased speed when pulling out of turns, I'm looking for s full set of fairings and left/right bottom fairings aswel what colour scheme is yours? Could do with few spare parts though cheers

Really? I'm a sceptic Honda's are renowned for being able to handle a good thrashing and be able to climax with each thrust of the throttle (mechanical terms for those with a dirty imagination) more like 22 rpm it just keeps winding.

Ignore these guys, they're just winding you up, no doubt jealous of your bike. Ring your local Honda dealer or pop in and order a new power band for it (yeah I know, most people think only 2-strokes have these bands but 4-strokes have them too, just harder to access), there are 3 types available for the MC17, Green (increases low down torque at the expense of top end power), Yellow (mild increase in both bottom end and top end performance) and Red (this is the one you want, HRC kit piece, you'll need to provide your chassis number to order it as HRC are wise to people fitting these to different bikes, often with disastrous effects). Get them to install it if you don't know your way around an engine and then hold on!!

Sad but true, we've seen this before though. One that comes to mind bought a VTR, crashed it. It was the drivers fault - of course. He was saying he was considering buying a Hyabusa to replace the VTR. I don't think we ever heard from him again.
A friend who worked for one of the local engine reconditioners was telling me about a young guy who went to Auckland to buy a Subaru. When he got it to New Plymouth the engine was stuffed. It was news to him that you are not supposed to take the rev counter needle as far as it would go into the red bit, virtually every gear change. Even the animal kingdom uses the colour red as a warning, but it was news to him.
These dudes are candidates for a Darwin Award but with a bit of luck they can make it through. Some need more luck than others.

Not true have found one putting out 92 HP on dyno. The single cylinder 250cc bikes today are quite shitty, possibly more suited for female riders just saying..

I don't know if OP still reads this thread but I think weight reduction is the most efficient way to gain performance here.
