Haven't seen the opening episode of the new version yet with Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc . Have recorded it and will watch it tonight.

From what I've read it was a bit of a disaster, anyone seen it yet?

I did see the short clip on U-toob but I'll reserve my judgement, initial impressions are two overpaid tossers with no sense of humour and nothing in common.

Humour was the glue that made the first series go so well

Matt was okay - almost a good replacement for Hammond, but Evans was just a squawky git and hard to listen to.

Matt LeBlanc was okay. Chris Evans looks to be a bit of a tool. Topgear was losing it before they came along though.

I have nothing against Top Gear TV show tbh.

I just miss the trio.

I would agree. Turned it off after 25 minutes.

I heard Chris Evans was hosting it, so I checked it out, but disappoint:no: it was not the Chris Evans from Captain America (http://assets.rollingstone.com/assets/2016/media/239346/_original/1462293084/1035x1352-evans-vert.jpg).

Watched the first episode last week, watched half the second episode, probably won't watch any more, CE annoys me just too much.

I've watched both eps so far..

Le Blanc cant deliever english jokes, but when ad libbing is ok
Evens delivers his jokes and lines like some one shoved a broom handle up his rectum. Stiff, and shouting in surpise.

In Ep 2 there were a couple of lol moments, but mostly due to seasick steve, le blanc and Tiny Temper. Every time the ginge reared his ugly head it went all to pieces.

There is only 6 eps, so I will watch them all.. but really.. its a train wreck.

Hammonds comment on facebook today:
"idiots. Watch some old top gear"

It had "potential", if that's the right word, but was really trying too hard.

Not a lot of charisma. Chris Evans is an annoying twat. Ginger's have no soul. The test track is laughable.

Stiggy looks like he wants to abandon ship altogether.

Have seen first episode.

Chris Evans looks nervous and tries too hard. Find him annoying in this mode...

Matt LeBlanc looks chilled but at odds with the Pommie humour and lingo.

Feels like watching Two and a half men after Charlie Sheen got canned, as in I don't bother now.

Only really amusing bit was Sabine muttering just loud enough to be heard - while wrestling with the Corvette - "this piece of shit doesn't handle anywhere near my Ferrari".....

Not the same but a lot better than the Top Gear USA or Aus.

I thought the American was going to be the annoying one.

I think it will get better. It's different, but then so were the last three compared to even older versions of top gear. It's not a show that is my cup of tea any longer though. Even if the last incarnation of top gear was just starting I wouldn't watch it much. To scripted. There are more honest, and better, moto offerings to watch on YouTube imo, if you can be bothered with that even.
YouTube was never opposition to top gear until the last five years or so.

Big Dog

But yeah, try hard. Habe to wait and see how they settle into the style. To be fair first eps of the original sucked too until the lads got over themselves.

That ginger is trying so hard... it doesn't work.

Joey (he will always be Joey) could actually do a good job of it if he had 2 hosts who were better. Actually he needs 2 cohosts to be actual idiots. Hammond and Clarkson were just idiotic enough.

I reckon Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey and Donald Trump would make a good top gear team.

Talented presenter and bloody good behind the wheel as well. I bet she is looking for an opportunity to join The Grand Tour...

And Chris Harris. He should just jump ship and let Top Gear drown as he's already got very successful car shows online.

CH is already a better presenter than the fake Captain America IMO.

To my shame, I'd never heard of Chris Harris until I saw his YouTube piece on the Bloodhound supersonic jet/rocket car which I thought was outstanding, especially when the Bloodhound driver, Andy Green took him up in an aerobatic plane to simulate the forces which he'll be exposed to in the car. Bloody funny and actually informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4AyytkpiB0

The guys got integrity too. He was once banned (maybe still?) from driving Ferrari cars by Ferrari for telling a truth online about how Ferrari rigs PR "tests" by providing suped up versions of their "stock" cars with stickier rubbers so that journalists have no choice but to be very wow-ed. Further stating car tests like this makes car journalist reviews pointless.

http://jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins

This is my favorite bit.

How bad has it been? I honestly don't know where to start. Perhaps the 360 Modena press car that was two seconds faster to 100mph than the customer car we also tested. You allow some leeway for "factory fresh" machines, but this thing was ludicrously quick and sounded more like Schumacher's weekend wheels than a street car. Ferrari will never admit that its press cars are tuned, but has the gall to turn up at any of the big European magazines' end-of-year-shindig-tests with two cars. One for straight line work, the other for handling exercises. Because that's what happens when you buy a 458: they deliver two for just those eventualities. The whole thing stinks. In any other industry it wouldn't be allowed to happen. It's dishonest, but all the mags take it between the cheeks because they're too scared of not being invited to drive the next new Ferrari.

The ginger has a 3 year contract. He won't let go of that without a substantial payout.
He may have to die in a 'stunt gone wrong'

And there was much rejoicing

Watched episode 2 last night, actually enjoyed it.

Agree that Evans is not particularly likeable, but he wasn't enough to put me off last night - think I could get used to it. He's annoying, but no less annoying than Clarkson was, just a bit more energetic about it – Clarkson without May or Hammond would be excruciating. Can't speak to the 'expertise' of either, Clarkson was so opinionated it was hard to tell how much he actually knew about cars.

I'd had enough of old top gear anyway, was well overdue for its swan song and the stunts/slapstick were getting pretty tired. It's a shame they've tried to keep so much of the old format, but I guess it's part of the brand. I hope it gets the chance to grow into its own skin, but probably won't given all the hate out there.

Evans is one of those people - you either love him or hate him - personally, he's never been my cup of tea. I actually enjoy Clarkson by himself - his documentary on Operation Chariot for example was great.

Clarkson would "yell" when required (normally when at high speed and in full-enjoyment of a vehicle's performance). Evans does not limit himself to merely that simple moment... sadly.

OK, I guess I haven't seen anything he's done on his own, while I've seen quite a bit of May (especially) and Hammond's individual stuff – kind of assumed he didn't have much more to offer.

Actually this whole thing might have been a godsend for those three, since they can start from scratch with the new show; it could be really good, although I wonder how many will see it on that Amazon thingy.
