for all those Isle of Man TT knockers, to date, before the final race day this is the at pace miles/kilometers that have been covered. 3087 practice laps and 1279 racing ones.
people say its the most dangerous track in the world, the event lasts two weeks with 600 competitors out there so statistically this is food for thought.

What's the stats now?
Damn phone....

That's a little over 1 death per 10,000 kilometers. Wonder how that compares to circuit bike racing. I imagine pretty poorly if you added up all the circuit racing from around the world.

Just crunched some numbers for comparison.
If a GP bike does 150 (very conservative number) laps in a weekend of an event, on an average track length of 4km. There are 22 bikes on the grid, and 16 rounds in a season. That's 211,200km traveled in one season.
I'm not knocking the tt. More power to anyone who wants to race it, they manage the risks with full knowledge.

263566 divided by 10000 equals 26.3566......

Why are you deciding it by 10,000? I don't understand what you're working out.
K's traveled devided by deaths equals 958.4218181818ks per death

really, then your comparison of a full season of gp racing compared with over 100 years of TT races is a little further apart than apples and oranges!

Not really if you add the other classes of GP to its k's per year, it destroys the tt.

mad sunday has nothing to do with the tt races, it's a standalone event in the same area over the same period of time.

it's all about the dangers, but stats so people actually can see the mileage to compare it with other stuff.

Man, I'm getting it all wrong today.
The stats are pretty bad, even in the context of k's travelled still.
How many entries were there this year?

Everest has claimed about 280. But not in a week.

Correct, the weekly count would be considerably less. 250 in total at the TT.

It's over 270+ according to whatever site I visited, as of last year.

Guess mad Sunday has claimed 20+ over the years.
Oh yeah, the Everest analogy thing. The climbing season there is very short. Dunno if it's two weeks short, but there's a small window. Shit tones fewer people try to climb it too.

It is a huge testament to the rider's skills that they can do around 300,000kms each year with so few accidents/injuries/deaths considering the level they are riding at & the conditions they are riding under.

To be fair, I don't think a great deal of the riders are giving it the berries.

I think a very high percentage of participants are riding conservatively. There's nothing wrong with that in any way of course.

have a look at the replicas awarded, a silver is for riding within 5% of the winners time and a bronze 10%, that might tell a different story....
