Daniel Craig without a doubt, the movies and characters more in keeping with the books rather than the gadget laden comedy fest of the previous "James Bonds"

you're all terrible.
for me it was a toss up between connery and craig. but craig's too...gay
connery just has that easy 'don't fuck with me' secret agent thing happening.

Connery. While the poor bugger ended up typecast by it and refused to do more (twice), he was definitely the quintessential Bond.
That said, the style of the movies have changed from the earlier ones to the more recent ones. You couldn't get away now with electrocuting someone in a bath and saying "shocking".

...it's all relevant...I had read most of the earlier books before the movies were made...the books were riveting without the faces...the rest after that, was entertainment...love 'em all...and his accessories...

True! - Did that recently and had my memories shattered - talk about ham - same thing for Johnny Weissmuller of Tarzan fame when I was a kid!

Dalton gets my vote, brought back the some seriousness to the series, but at the same time could have the odd smile/funny moment.

I see the English bookies have stopped taking bets on the next Bond.
Someone placed an unusually large bet on it being Tom Hiddlestone (The Night Manager).

Without a doubt Daniel Craig. Gritty and sullen, the embodiment of the true Bond. He was the perfect choice to "restart" the 007 story.
The earlier Bond movies were a product of their age and need to be viewed as such. In particular the Roger Moore 1970s personification of Bond was camp and comedic. It's like watching an old Benny Hill show - you have to suspend modern day sophistication and sensibilities.

...my Velo doesn't run as fast as it did in the adverts I read in 1969... these days...stop dispelling the youth that was once, you, and start embracing the fact that you once, were thrilled by it all...you were only a decade or so away from black and white and scratchy sound until the silver screen turned into technicolor...and rode some old bikes when they were new...but yes, Johnny was only deserving of a banana at the Academy Awards....

Daniel Craig. I read all the books in my youth. Bond was a ruthless bastard - used women, killed as required, hard arse.
Connery gets the nod as the 'original' but played it with a often boyish charm that was not written in the stories. Suited the time for sure.
Graig embraced the true essence of the man - a bastard with a rogue charm.

or when he walks in on the woman in the bubble bath and she says, "Be a gentleman and get me something to wear" and he hands her a pair of slippers. Ooh errr missus. THUNDERBALL I think.
I voted Pierce Brosnan. He is great in a dead eyed stone killer way. Plus there is the super cool BMW R1200C that he rode round those rooftops.

Could only be a worse poll if it were about how to construct the best foot long Sub.
subway
now i have a fairly refined pallete, and can with some confidence furnish you with the recipe for subway's "seafood":
1) take all of yesterday's unsold loaves and put in a blender with a 30% chlorine bleach solution.
process on high until it almost re-forms as glue
2) add a half teaspoon of maggi "fish stock" powder for every 20L pail of glue mix
3) spray a sunny wall with chicken blood, from here you must work quickly
4) take handfuls of the glue-fish mixture, roll them into sausages and throw them at the wall. when the blood coagulates/the glue dries, they will fall to the floor, sweep up the sausages, slice thinly and put into plastic bin and refrigerate.
5)since there's no actual food in this recipe (except the chicken blood) this mixture will keep for up to 34 years
6) mix can be "freshend up" by stirring through mayonaise.

brosnan was too everyman, and a bit mr. Bean, too. He's more the face of an underwear commercial.
He's only on the list because the directors chose him, not me.
Pretty sure this confirms your taste in films is utter shit.

well, duh.
While i think you're right about moore, i think the suarve-ity comes through, regardless of the period.
I suppose connery had more chance than anyone else to prove it. But thats also more chance to fuck it up, and he did not.

(but I do hear that Craig was a great Bond, more in keeping with the original books, but he is not Sean Connery)

Daniel Craig too gay??? Pffft. I'm disappointed he won't be sticking around but I understand the role is pretty hard on the body and an actor would have to be a bit masochistic to continue playing Bond too many times. I really liked Brosnan but Craig smashed the character, despite the way Bond being played having nothing really to do with the majority of spy work (or so I've read). I've always laughed at the "the name's Bond, James Bond" which, despite being the obligitory catch line in all of them, makes me wonder why any spy would really say "oh, you may as well know my identity". Movies. Gotta love 'em.
But anyways, the big question is who will be filling those big shoes? Hiddlestone would be great I think, after seeing him in the Night Manager - a cross between Brosnan and Craig.
Here's a thought - maybe make a poll - who would be our own KB James Bond stand-in? I don't think "the name's Bandit, PrincessBandit" has quite the same ring... so probably not me.
Connery beats Craig by the width of a chest hair...

Until Craig showed up Bondmovies were a bit of a parody. ..
Like a cartoon played out by human actors.
So farcical and over the top. ..
Craig made it very real and watchable again.
Before him the series pretty much had nothing left to offer...
He be a hard act to top

Except that people said following Connery would be impossible. I would rank Craig second, the more gritty Bond etc.

now now, he didn't get killed in Sharpe lol
Tough picking one. But as some have pointed out, you need to judge each actor on watch audiences wanted at that time. Who delivered. I voted Roger because during the camp, light hearted 70s that's what we were into. He delivered the cool, suave and cheeky lines brilliantly. Watching them again would be a shame because they would seem so dated and I'd go 'what the hell did I see in him and his silly Bond movies back then?
I couldn't split hairs (well except for Connery's forest that really needed mowing) between Craig and Connery and Brosnan, all did a fine job.
