I've been trying all sorts of bikes to find a permanant replacement for my old XJ900. Ive taken a bit of a fancy to the FZ1 but other than it seems to be R1 powered has a ujm riding style (yaaay) and has standard tele forks I don't know much about em.
Can anyone tell me what theyre like to ride ??

they dont seem as grunty as an r1. try this link for relavant info...http://www.motorbikes.be/en/Yamaha/2003/FZS%201000%20Fazer/ :niceone: apparently they handle real good, have you looked at the honda 900hornet?? i've heard heaps of good stuff about them, also sv1000s' are supposedly quite good probably a bit down on power compared to the i-4's though, but its not me buying the bike....

Have recently ridden the hornet, the sv1000 naked and the FZ6.
Out of those three i'd pick the sv1000 naked. Best all round package it seems.
FZ6 is a little screamer, handles well for a bike with minimal suspension adjustment. Too buzzy though.

Hornet good allround but I didnt like sitting so high when it came to the corners. You sit more "in" the sv which makes it a little more comfy.

One of my mates has one, i liked it, good power for a naked bike, good handling, looks ok 2....and its piss easy to bump the power up if you so desire, im sure in the naked series in Oz they were getting 155wrhp without bugger all mods..

very comfy to travel on and they wheelie sweet:whistle: just dont tell my mate that.

If you're considering other similar bikes, then don't forget the mighty Kawasaki ZRX1200R. The best bike in this class, by my reckoning, nice and all as the FZ1 is. (By "class" I mean the CB1300, XRJ1300, Bandit, FZ1, GSX1400, X11)

Try www.yamahafz1oa.com or http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum

Standing ¼ in 11.17, average speed over the flying ¼ is 233.99kph (145.40mph). 160kph in second, 200kph in third.

Will now open other eye.

i dont really want a nekkid what i want is to have a genuine sprotbike that I can ride. -my shoulder can't handle too long in the riding position a genuine sprotbike dictates.

I just posted an opinion in the Paris bikes thread.

Nice bike - much more real world than an R1 - ie not a track riding position and tucked in and flat out attitude.
You could tour on it quite easily and still put in a respectable track day time.

The KR long termer has an Ohlins fitted on the back and I found the front end a bit heavy - don't think it was a problem with the bike - just the way it's set up. Aesthetically it's no oil painting, but it's not ugly either.

I found that the motor needs 7,000rpm before it really comes 'on song' and by that time I was going faster than I wanted to on the Bethells Rd.

Was probably a bit spoiled because the bikes i rode immediately before the FZ1 were a Speed Triple, A Sprint ST and a KTM950 Superduke.
All of which have motors that pull much harder than the Yamaha at 3,000rpm (or sub 140kph.) That said when the FZ hits around 7K it really smokes.

It's a good all round bike - and if you like 'wicking it right up' a spirited and capable performer that is really pretty comfortable in traffic too.

My conclusion was - If you don't want to spent a lot of time going really quick, then there are bikes that are more rewarding at lesser pace. But there's nothing wrong with the FZ1 at all.

Check out the web site and the "Pats Page" where you can increase the hp up to 150+ (rwhp) from the stock 123rwhp. There are a lot of options to 'customise' the machine to your taste.

The common concensus is that the blue models are the faster machines.

The Fazer is king of the jap nekids( or partly clothed in this case). I would have one tomorrow, but not at $6000 more than a Bandit, it's not that much better. For $3000 more than the Fazer you could get a Superduke, which would annihilate it in the twistys and make you grin like a loon everytime you rode it.

That is debateable... I love my Z1000 Kawi.... Looks the FZ1 would die for.... :devil2:

Edit... The Superduke is a twin.....
