hey guys,

I know its a matter of preference but - has any one of you ridden both bikes? Which you would you pick for your first bike?

I commute +/- 40km/day, 75% city road 25% will be motorway.

I won't be traveling long distances with it (not often anyway).

They're basically the same bikes in different clothing. I'd try them both and see which one you prefer.

I have an R3. It is a fun bike.

I'd go the MT-03. Looks cool and less fairings to bust up if you drop it.

Test ride them and find out which one you prefer.

You could also look at the KTM 390 or RC390, CBR300, or Kawasaki Ninja 300. They're all similar(ish), economical and great around town.

They all also fine for long distance riding, and throwing around in the twisties (and arguably more fun), but you may be slightly cramped if you have long legs.

You'll have to find out for yourself...

MT for me. The R3 has a more forward position, which is most comfortable when you are at road speeds that give pressure on your body that lifts the weight off your arms and wrists. The MT is more upright, so less weight all the time, regardless of speed.

Or you could just look at the R3, think "Hell yeah" and buy it anyway.

This may be a thread dredge, but one thing worth pointing out is that the tank cut outs on the new MT-03 won't work for everyone. I kept getting my knees caught on them, not in a useful support while cornering way either, they just seemed to get in the way while riding regularly.

The R3 fitted me much better, and the suspension is a tad firmer too which I also preferred.

if youre new enough to riding to be asking this question, youll not notice any difference between them other than comfort.

Sit on both and buy the one that you feel fits you better.
