Hi all

I have just been looking at a map re the roads out the back of Wanganui and there are shitloads between the Parapara's, Marton, Hunterville and Taihape areas. I have done the Turakina valley road and the #2 line out of Wanganui through to Hunterville several times before but my question is are there other roads in there that would make a good ride. I'm on a sport tourer so want to stick to the seal if possible thanks.

Regards
to all

Fields Track and the Whanganui River Road are both sealed, and great rides too.

Agree, the river road is narrow and can be busy, so eyes wide open, nice break at Pipiriki with toilets, shops and great hosts (Ken and Josephine Haworth) then out to Raetihi then either back down the Para Para or across to Ohakune to Waiouru and back through Taihape etc. The Local Phone book shows the surrounding areas sealed roads in blue from memory.
edit, I think I maybe wrong about the roads marked in Blue, sorry.

Most of the minor connecting roads from the Paraparas through to the Taihape/Hunterville area are gravel.

Fields Track is a great ride on a sunny day. The Wanganui River Road I would recommend on a Sunday, when there are no logging trucks on it. Angel Lousie Cafe in Raetihi has great food.

I do the River road parapara fields track loop pretty often, the parapara in not fixed, all credit to the councils for the river road, watch the locals as they use all of the road, coffee shop there as well! good ride

be careful with that one, locals don't care that it's two way and had tow mates come across unmarked papa road surface and both went down at xmas, good ride but be careful, locals have bull bars, you don't....

Great wisdom in these words there is. Did this in the summer as group of five. Interesting interactions with camper vans and a guy towing canoes on the River Road. Take the corners wide.

paraparas slippery in the rain....watch out for a brown haze on the road.
