I have a 1988 KX500 and want to do some VMX. It has 1991 forks.

Does anyone know where I can find class rules? Or can they give me an idea if its eligible for any racing?

The forks qualify you for the pre 96 class. The standard bike would see you in pre 91.
At mo both pre 91 and 96 classes are run as an all in race until the number of entries grows, which it is judging by this years results.

So 1990 forks would qualify the entire bike for pre 91? I have a set of those but they need a bit more work

All the info you require is on the Nz VMX web page or on their Facebook page , the season runs from Oct-April , usually on the first wknd of each month , mainly based around the central nth island . There are also some local events in New Plymouth and Kapiti areas .

To be honest Choppa there's not tech inspections on what's pre 91/90 so just ride and unless you start beating the fast guys nothing will be said .

the one thing they do hate is wavy disc rotors ? but they're a commensurable like tires, chains, sprockets so shud be exempt , but they still hate them . Yep I dabble in the VMX thing and ended up starting my own club Ardmore Classic Motocross & Enduro or ACME to get away from the Anal retentive types as most just want to ride their bikes in a fun environment.

Im not a fan of the wavy discs, been trying to keep it as original as possible
