"Club Circuit" at Hampton Downs

I know I'm pre judging but I'm kinda thinking the new 'club circuit' at HD may be a tad farcical ...1.2km, 4 (or is it 5) corners.
I suppose it's much the same as Taupo was although I think even that was longer.
Yeah, I know ... I don't have to go etc etc but I just feel deflated by the prospect .. it just has no appeal.
I guess it's back to Puke a bit and maybe Taupo/Manfield when I can.

It is probably a better trackday circuit than the national circuit. You will get more laps in a session and less time wasted with the throttle pinned waiting for a corner.

My opinion is obviously skewed by the fact I ride a 400 which makes the straight bits long and boring.

Track 2 at Taupo is more fun than Track 1 ;)

Yep, I accept it appeals to the small bike riders and probably some bigger cc bike riders as well .... the young, fit and agile ones.
Not me though :(

When I first started racing back in (errrmmmm 1984!) The Auckland Club ran all it's club series on the old Puke short circuit, and had done so for years at that point. 2 1/2 corners - the sweeper, the hairpin and sort of a kink when it transitioned off the full circuit.

The only time we used the full circuit was a start of season test day, the Nationals and the mid week open practice days.

The racing was pretty intense, and fast paced, turning races over quickly. Once Puke was resurfaced in later 1991, the club circuit became unusable and was missed by many of the riders. I've seen a few riders who raced internationally who rated it their favourite circuit....

I guess what I'm saying is, wait and see, I think give it a try

We have just sadly lost the B track down here at Ruapuna. Such a great track to race on as you were very busy the whole race with a nice challenging camber change when you cut back onto the "Main" track. It will be missed especially for the boys on the smaller CC bikes, great chance to have a go at some more powerful bikes round the bends.

Best bet is to not knock it till you try it mate, could be a hoot!

It may be a short track but it looks like the corners that are there are quicker than turns 4 & 5 of the original track so it could be quite interesting.

Original Ruapuna, about 1.6km. Original Levels, about 1.6km....Both provided excellent racing.
You'd come in from a 6 lap race with tyre marks on the fairing - and often ripped leathers.

Big tracks and modern superbikes you can't do that. I miss it.

My racing days are over, sadly, time spares nobody but I still enjoy track days on my R1.
My thoughts are that racing a short circuit (my only experience with that was the old Taupo track) was fun, cut throat and intense. Lotsa crashes !
I just don't think that way about doing a track day on a 1.2km track on a superbike, but, I'll give it a go.
I'm guessing I'll have to drop out of the 'fast' group though !!
