Is anyone interested at all about these games?.
Might be different if I knew someone competing. If this article is anything to go by, the water sports are going to be in the shit,

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/81767464/Oil-slick-turns-boats-brown-at-Rio-Olympics-sailing-venue

The last line from the story,
World Sailing, the governing body of the sport, said it was "not in a position to comment".

Probably been told to 'shut it', or else.

Brazil took a gigantuous financial dump during the world cup couple of years ago. What's worse than one giant white elephant..? Two giant white elephants...

I'll have my popcorns ready for this one :corn:

All the good stuff will be on Sky TV. We'll get some stuff on free-to-air, but it will probably be like 10 solid hours of fucking lawn bowls or somesuch.

Well, that rules out just about every hobby in existence

this shit isn't improving the species.

One could make the argument that it does in 2 ways:

1: By providing a mechanism for a select few to reach the pinnacle of human achievement thus creating fitter/faster/stronger genes to be disseminated into the Gene pool (ala Tiger Woods)
2: By providing inspiration for the greater masses to improve their own fitness at an amateur level - leading to a healthier stock of humans.

What is wrong with entertainment?

Anyway before every olympics there are countless articles about the olympic venues not being ready/suitable/safe. They always are.

Yus, get the kids off the couch.

The Olympics has lost it's luster like a lot of professional sports through politics, cheating, back room deals and bull shit. Unless you follow a specific sport or athlete it's just an advertising platform.

But, yeah, na. The heroes and heroines who inevitably pop remain an inspiration.

I shall be following retrospectively.

No need to use a big word when a singularly unloquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity.

most hobbies aren't corporately sponsored, televised etc
and generally happen without such furore.

certainly no-one's yet started a thread about dressing in my sisters clothes and masturbating on the toilet with a full length mirror on the door while eating sushi.

What size is your sister? I know someone who might be willing. At a guess he would be a #12.

well, she buys clothes 12, but due to a steady diet of corned beef, cabin bread and woodstock from the age of 13, and having had three kids, now that she's turned 16, so has her size.

Not so sure about the 'Clean and Jerk' but I guess I wouldn't mind a glance at the 'Snatch'. Mind you, having watched the Snatch I might have to have my own competition ... the "Jerk and Clean'.

People need to remember this:
“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.”― Ernest Hemingway

Secondly: If it has a set of rules, it is a "game".

A bit of a mixed fortunes to date. I'm pleased to see Bond and Murray get the gold. Had a feeling the men's sevens were going to miss out. They haven't been up to speed for a while now.

Ah, yes. That lovely Chinese weight lifting athlete who smashed two World Records with her snatch. Delicious.

Must admit I am stoked for Fiji, the country is going nuts and the players receiving their medals was a lovely watch. Well done.

True - Fiji always was the great sevens development side and deserve to be recognised as such - fantastic! :niceone:

It wasn't that long ago that Fiji was routinely superior to New Zealand in the sevens.
