CORSER SUPERBIKE WORLD CHAMPION
CORSER CROWNED CHAMPION AFTER SECOND RACE CANCELLATION Troy Corser (Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki) took his second World Champion in peculiar circumstances, after the second race at the Imola circuit was cancelled before it had started, due to torrential rain. Chris Vermeulen (Winston Ten Kate Honda), the only man who had an arithmetical chance of stopping Corser’s surge to the crown, won the first 21 lap race, but with Corser second it was always going to be an uphill battle to secure the overall championship even if race two had gone ahead. After a long delay to allow the weather to improve enough to let racing start, Race Direction eventually called of the event to a reluctant halt. Corser is now an unassailable 55 points ahead of Vermeulen, 409 to 354.

was watching the racing, looks cool to see them leaning in to the start of the corners with the rear ends sliding as much as they do, and these guys ride as if its not even happening!

Cool! Finally Suzuki takes the WSBK crown and Troy gets to prove he hasn't lost it. Suzuki SO deserve this, for years they have been making awesome sport bikes affordable.
Not that I have anything against Ducati, but after YEARS of watching them dominate because the rules favoured them, it's nice to see they aren't likely to even get second! In a couple of years we'll all be going "remember when everyone thought V-twins were the ultimate? Snerk!"

I think they should run an extra race for the last event to make up to it. Mr boring won because rain prevented the race. Mind you, good on the camera man for focusing on the t-shirt logo's for so long - the most eventful part of the evening I think :)
Still suzuki built a great bike and deserve the win, even if they put an average racer on it :)

It doesn't matter what round you won it in - when you are polishing the Trophy.

Wouldn't be suprised if the new daytona 675 is discussed again sometime, but i think he's still on contract at yamaha.

I wish Honda would stop farken around and just do a 1000cc RVF. It'd almost be like cheating.

Good on Troy, not bad for a guy that won the championship 9 years ago which is quite a long time in this sport.

Mr Boring??? Troy Corser has been keeping me and my mates entertained for years...only one person deserved his 96 title and that was Aaron Slight(but that is my biased opinion in favour of Slighty but he is the man :)
Good on ya Troy and well done doing it on a Suzuki...they have been at the back for waay too long
Oh and you could throw Rossi on any MotoGP bike and he would still win...no biggie for Yamaha there :P

And race it where? Don't think there is any WSS rules regarding racing a triple, certainly no 675cc limit mentioned anywhere. Only 600cc four strokes and 750cc twins are mentioned in the regs.

FIM WSS regs , go to page 77 (http://www.fim.ch/EN/rules/Sportifs/ccr/2005/05-REG%20SUPERBIKE+SPORT+STOC_tech.pdf)
Think Triumph are trying to take this for granted, 675cc being halfway between 600cc and 750cc. Think though, that the organisers would rather just have a 600cc limit as they now have only a 1000cc limit in WSBK (no split limits like they use to have). While Ducati have had limited success with the 749 (including this latest race) and being Italian and all, they will probably keep the 750 twin limit but apparently the Japanese factories arent happy with this and want the change to all bikes being 600cc.

Wasn't doubting you - I don't even know if they want to go racing - sales are strong without the expenditure. That's whay they pulled the plug on it last time. (after Ansty won the IOM too)
They are getting good press with the Thruxton cup - so dunno.
I know I have enjoyed watching Bruce Saunders punt AMPS black Daytona around lately.
