sorry to pester you all, but I have to do a survey for Defensive driving so I can get my full quicker.

Simple question...

"What compels you to speed?"

Thanks in advance!!

The rush...

The zoom factor. The same thing that makes kids try to go ever higher on swings, spin roundabouts as fast as they can, race trolleys down the steepest hills.
That's why they'll never stop people speeding.

Depends.

It might be trying to get there before my bladder bursts.
Running away from the baddies.
The wotsit's fallen off.
The debbil made me do it.:devil2:
The Satantune keeps screaming "Go faster! GO FASTER!!!"
I'm late for it.
It's part of my incorrigibly murderous nature.
I cannae hold her, Cap'n - she's takin' off! She's takin' off!!
I need to go fast to make sure I get there before I run out of fuel.
I need to go fast to make sure I get my share of speed before the world runs out of fuel.
The hamster's on Upside-down b.
It's stuck.
Solar wind at my back.

the adrenalin

The high you get, that maniacal shit eating grin that better than... well as good as... ok - close to sex....

You should try it some time (of course only on the track) you will know why!

you make it sound like I have a choice, but the induction howl only kicks in after 5000rpm, and by that stage its to late.

ditto with Lou..
the buzz and adrenalin ya get is awesome.

It's ironic that most of the best feelings to experiance are seldom legal..
I will never touch any drugs aside from medication and alkamahol, this is by far my best addiction. But I don't speed. i swear.

Agree with pretty much all of the above...

main reason is just 'coz it's farkin fun to hear the symphony of that throbbing, breathing, pumped hunk of metal between your legs churning at 13,500rpm when exiting a corner with the peg just leaving the ground for its next low altitude, high speed flight that lasts until the next corner...

especially fun when some farm kids are standing by and thinking how this hail of noise which accompanies the candy coated, alloy and titanium stallion going past them is just the absolute shit! Pity their Dad's seldom agree.

I do it because I can, because I want to, and because I don't like being told what to do.

Sometimes it's adrenalin (even more so when those Holden Bringitons try and keep up). Sometimes I just do. I have a belief that just cos some twat in an office thinks 100k is the maximum safe speed I can travel at doesn't mean they're right.

Gremlin

The thrill, sheer fun, perhaps to get to the other side.

Not to mention that the limit seems awfully slow and there is no fun to be had either...

Just that thrill of coming down from a rate of knots for a tight corner, down through the gears, blipping revs or watching them jump between gears, lean it round the corner then crank the throttle back on again, quickly shifting through the gears (ZZRs take a while, so I can just crank it on without care)

Just doing that puts you waaay above the limit :devil2:

 if god didn't want us to speed, he would have given us more realistic speed limits and less powerful vehicles......

because I am busting to go to the toilet. And because Im not supposed to.
and because I need to keep up with the traffic on 'rides'

I have a major issue with risk taking.
Was I speeding ?,an what are YOU doing out here anyway ?
Find a twisty road an push the bike til I'm so close to the limit I should come off, speeding just comes as a result of that.
Five miles off the west coast in a fourteen foot tinne, you gott'a gun it to stay alive, speed just happens as a result of that.
You want fast, try it in a boat!!!
Stuck up a cliff face 10 kms into Te Urewera an if you fall off, your probably speeding a bit before you land.
It just happens!!!

Am I missing something here, what does speeding have to do with defensive riding, or is that capital D an indication of something i'm not aware of.

pretty much agree with what everyone else has said...keeping with the flow of traffic, adrenalin, getting to a gas station before she cuts out on me, and also going to add...how do i get used to something if i dont do it?? i ride in wind, rain whatever so i can get used to it faster, rather being a pussy and waiting for cage dweller to give me a ride home.

and like someone else said...bikes need speed to balance. was following a mistral up one of the main town roads the other day. clear road for blocks, and they were just crawling. going maybe 30k..cars backed up for miles behind me, and me struggling to not drop my feet, lol. was so glad when they slammed on the breaks, let their indicater blink once and then pull into a park :argh:

Car: Coz I wanna be first (being at the front, you avoid all the dipshits that could stuff up your day)
Bike: Coz it is fun. mmmmm bikes. mmm fuck - can you get horny for a bike? wtf.. gotta go!

Simple question...

"What compels you to speed?"

Thanks in advance!!

Two reasons:
(1) to overtake person driving too slowly in front of me who does not want to pull over and give way despite holding up traffic behind him.
(2) going with the traffic flow. I feel unsafe driving slower than other people because it makes changing lanes (when needed) becomes too dangerous.

Thank's for asking :sunny:

Thanks people, the AA lady was rather interested with the results... BTW, if you want to know why I speed its because the howl of a 2-stroke is rather addictive and you have to speed to get to the power band in 6th....

oh yea!!

shhh... leave her alone, if that is what she calls speeding then the cops would love us :dodge:

What was the intention of the lady's question?? And in what way was the lady "interested"?? :devil2: (Just being nosy)

Who says I speed?

Define speed.

If you mean driving/riding at an unsafe speed , then the answer is "I don't"

If you mean driving/riding at a speed in excess of the posted limit , then the answer is the same as the one to "Why do you prak longer then the parking sign says". Because the posted limit is unrealistic, unsafe , fails to take account of real world realities.

Its part of the DD course set by the AA, I don't have a car license so I can't do the passrite course (NOT FREAKIN FAIR!!!!). Anyway, If I hadn't done this survey I would fail and wouldn't be allowed my full till around Xmas NEXT year....

Big thanks to everyone that answered!!! :2thumbsup

Lou Girardin

I never heard of such a question in a DD course. But I guess anything's possible in this brave new world.
It may be psychological profiling to see if you're going to turn into a crazed road murderer and travel at 1.5 km/h over the limit.

Gontour
4th October 2005, 12:39
having the ability to go fast easily compel's me to go fast,
but you should probably answer the question along the lines of.....

Having more than enough horsepower on tap allows me to open my options in times of evasive manouevres. Speeding would not be a my/sensible option in normal riding conditions.

Good luck with your full license

Cause the current spped limits are bullsh*t and if they were more realistic then I would be more inclined to stick to them......... occasionally.
