SO, its been a while since I've ridden on the road and being a farm kid, I've grown up on dirt bikes (KX125's, XR400R's, XR650) I'm looking at getting the BMW G650GS to do a tour of NZ spread over a couple summers.

I'll probably be buying the bike later in the year but was wondering if there were any other dual purpose ewan-mcgregor-long-way-down/round types in the Auckland area that might be keen on coming with me for a ride just so I can get my confidence up again on the road and maybe share some tips and useful info to help get me back on the road again?

Thanks in advance!

Rock on.

Have you thought about going to a qualified professional to give you some judgement, at least initially? There are a number who do one on one coaching for returning riders. The one I have personal experience of is Philip McDaid at Riderskills in Westgate. Amazing guy. http://www.riderskills.co.nz/default.asp?pageref=backtobiking&rightbar=ReadyForSummer. There are also some other really good ones in the region.
