I have been looking around and went to mitro 10 and Bunnings to find a metal mesh to make my own radiator guard, but couldn't find the right stuff.

Has anyone done this before or knows where to get it and cut to size ? No way I'm gonna pay $180 for R&G stuff haha

Most automotive suppliers should have it in stock, such as Super Cheap etc.

Usually zip ties above and below radiator or similar on the mounting points. Obviously not going to be quite as tidy as a bought one, but it will cost less.

if thats a home job its actually pretty neat. The condition of the bike itself is more like your average DRZ

Have bought a few from RadGuard in Aussie now, always a perfect fit and pretty easy as well. Bolted not ziptied. As you say though $180 is about right by the time they post it.

Somewhere like Para Rubber could supply edging. They have an automotive section and carry edging.

Haha, that was back in 2007. Guess I was always destined for an adventure bike ;) It did get cleaned from time to time, but the experiment buying cheap black bolts didn't pay off (they rusted).

Mine is by this guy: http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?sid=mandlebarracing&_pgn=1&isRefine=true

I think he makes them in his garage to help finance his racing. Just mesh and edging strip, and spray paint. Awesome price too! On the Tuono, the top guard just fits inside the radiator ends by friction - the inverted curve of the radiator helps to hold it there. Oil cooler one is tied on thru the radiator with fine stainless wire. Couldn't be happier.

Thats not a bad effort.

They're tricky when you're fitting. Looks simple on the surface, but I remember that one. The top half had a concave inwards, centre line vertical. The bottom was flat on the vertical plane but had to concave on the horizontal... Took a few attempts to flex it into place, then secure...

Learnt the value of radiator guards when a mate holed his at 600km... expensive first service.

Was looking at my rad and thought I better get a guard for it. Looks easy to make.

Now I need to find the edge trim part , went to few shops but couldn't see the right one , were rubber ones but I don't want to risk the melting on the radiator

Think I used rubber edging, rad doesn't get that hot. Can't think where I got it now. Have another bike to do, what supply did you use?

I bought the mesh from super cheap auto for $17, it's massive. Need to find the trimming now and figure out the best way to attache it

If there's an auto-trimmer in your area they may well be able to help with something for the edge of the mesh.

Stil no luck with edge trim sadly , went to a window edge trim shop but they didn't have the diameter to fit properly.
Still looking

You could go the No8 fencing wire path...

Make a frame of No8 wire that is the same size as the radiator, lay that frame on the mesh and cut out mesh so that there's enough to fold over the wire frame. Get it nice and tight then stitch the mesh to the frame with something like fuse wire, doing a stitch that goes round the frame and also stitches the mesh together. Then put some heat resistant tape along the frame edges, like a bias-binding on fabric...

Just a thought...

Try comac.
Should have rolls of edging by the meter to purchase.
Based in palmy but awesome to deal with.

I have a few sources from the USA who will ship cheap and internationally -

They ship mainly stainless steel woven wire mesh and have been a very reliable source for me in the past -

http://www.mcmaster.com

http://www.bwire.com

They will also send samples as needed.
