Hi Can any one help me with this problem.
My 2008 harley Nightster won't start but it will try to.
The noise the fuel pump makes has stopped and it now won't start.
the battery has slowly died over the past week but when i took it in to get charged they said its like new.
Anyone have any ideas?

A great mate of mine has often asked of my computer ( read Bike) "Do you still have the box it came in?"
He bleives that I'm too stupid to own a good computer and therefore should take it back for a refund.
Sounds like your battery gave up the ghost a week or two ago and now it won't start the bike or accept a charge.
New battery and a quick visit to the auto sparky to see if it's anything worse than that.

Most likely a faulty systems relay.

Very common problem.

If the battery is replaced and the fuel pump still doesn't prime, you've probably accidentally hit the kill switch :o

Fucks sake mate it's a 2008 Harley. The Motor Company wants you to buy a new one and to aid this they have installed a 'stop running' piece of software in the computer.

You will now take it to you local HD dealer who will charge a silly amount to 'fix' this 'problem' then when you collect the bike the sales staff will tell you it is a model they are happy to trade and skillfully direct you towards the sparkly new models and wave a set of demo bike keys under you eyes.

Ha - reminds me of some years back when a Honda of mine would not run - I checked a lot of things, even tried bump starting it and replacing the fuel, then out of desperation did a Google resulting in checking the kill switch ...... yep, I'd bumped it :weep:

im thinking a lot of us that been round a little while have done this to some degree or other:laugh::laugh:

was a common problem on the quads in the middle of calving, normally at midnight with the hail coming in horizontal and ya out picking up calves to get them out of the weather whilst running on auto pilot wishing like hell you were snuggled up in a nice warm bed. ahhhh them were the days, i really miss them

For once, a useful suggestion. I would suggest exploring this avenue. You getting soft Katman?

Sounds like no one here likes Harleys.
This is a bike i could afford at that time and now i feel really bad for owning one after some of the comments.
O well I guess its time to sell and just drive a car:(

If fuel pump isn't priming, maybe your security key internal battery is dead, possible if the battery in the key has never been changed since you bought the bike.

Nah. If that's the prob, the alarm would be ringing it's head off. Katman nailed it.

The immobiliser, bike won't start without the signal from the key.

Aye. But when the battery is flat, the fob is not sending the signal to the ECU, and the bike thinks it's being stolen, and the alarm activates. But I've only been selling Harleys for the last 20 years, so could be wrong... :innocent:

Actually, that ISN'T strictly true... many of us on here DO know the real truth of this. Yes Pete worked in a HD dealers..... he was their secret weapon to sell a bike...
Buy one NOW, or we give you a complimentary cup of coffee, made by Pete :pinch:
