I seem to have a problem with some adware that has installed itself into the system - called something like "tpnads".

In the past I have used spybot to remove such stuff. However, the latest download of Spybot refuses to do a "total system scan" for a reason that continues to elude me. Any ideas? Or other software that would do the same job?

System runs W7 64 bit, home edition.

Thanks.

Malwarebytes is a popular choice. Click on download - there's a free trial of the full version which should get rid of everything causing you trouble

Those Indian dudes ( from 'Microsoft' ) that always ring when you're just about to have your dinner should be able to help you out

+1 with Malware bytes. I have the Pro version which is essentially "fire and forget" after you've set up a suitable check schedule. I've also used Webroot Secure Anywhere Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware for a few years. It gets great reviews and doesn't hog your computer like some other apps. Here's a link to one review: http://au.pcmag.com/webroot-secureanywhere-antivirus-2015/25181/review/webroot-secureanywhere-antivirus-2015

Turn off bit defender.
If that does not help try running spy bot in 32 bit compatibility. An earlier signature may not be blocked.
