Went to open new bank account to transfer mortgage to new bank.
Drivers licence has a section that lamination has come away that has the expiry date on it. It still has a year left but cant be seen on licence.
Ok fair enough go to AA to get replacement. Rings land transport and they wont accept my current licence as id to get replacement licence because of failure of the lamination on my licence. They supplied it to me and it failed to last the 10 year period of due life expectancy. I would say its been in my wallet as most guys do with a licence and it failed to perform as per the expectation when I purchased it(note the picture id good still and they can confirm date is good also on their system).
Next they wont accept my passport as valid id because it expired 4 years ago.
Result is I have to renew my Passport which will take 10 days and cost me $180.00 in order to have a id acceptable to replace the drivers licence/id that failed to last 10 years.

" If neither document contains a photo, you must also provide a passport-style photograph signed by an identity referee.
Who can be an identity referee?
Your referee must:
Have a valid New Zealand passport or New Zealand driver licence
Have known you for one year or more
Be at least 16 years of age
Not be related to you or part of your extended family group
Not be your spouse or partner
Not live at the same address as you.
Your referee must provide their passport or driver licence number, name, date of birth and contact details, including a daytime telephone number.
Your referee must write your full name, their own signature and the date on the back of one photo. A business that takes passport photos will usually supply one photo with a pre-printed label on the back"

Yep. It has the photo its missing the 7 from 2017.
I don't have anything from table 1 that is valid.
Issue is they know its 2017 as its on their own system yet they wont accept their own defective id as id.
The process of getting replacement is slower than passport and im time critical for mortgage renewal.

Had the same thing with an expired passport, can't see why it matters if it's expired or not it still has your details and photo on it
If I'm asked to provide ID I usually start by giving them my firearms licence, just for the entertainment of watching them try and fit the details into a system that expects a drivers licence.

Lucky I spent 4 hrs in town trying to open a preapproved mortgage account and got to the stage I need renew my passport or my preapproval will expire and my existing bank wants to charge me more than .5% above the going rate.

I recently did mine online and it only took three days - startlingly fast.
When I used to check IDs I'd accept expired passports. My thinking was that if someone was going to offer me a dodgy passport they'd be producing a current one, not an old one.

Yep. Im hardly going to make a fake licence and then damage the top coating in order to open a bank account then put my weekly wage into it.

At this point i would be contacting your bank and explaining the circumstances and seeing if you can get a fortnight or so to get things in order prior to the renewal.

Is all good. My wife tried for a long time but even she gave up in the end.
The family was notified that they wouldn't inform anyone if there was a death until after the funeral so nobody would waste money attending so there is some issues I would assume. Not normal behaviour.

Still have couple of weeks and if it goes floating at the old bank for a while wont hurt a lot.
We sent photocopy of drivers licence to mortgage broker couple weeks ago and mentioned it.
I will end up with the 10 year passport so at some point it will get used.
What I cant understand is why I cant get a replacement when only 1 number is missing on the 9 year old licence as you can see its me and they know the expiry date.

Officials with clipboards eh? They probably have the discretion to help but lack the empathy. Hence the reason they do that for a job in the first place. Like an unfunny monty python sketch really.

Silly thing is I don't even need send old passport in to get new passport just paperwork, verifier and mug shots.
Then I can take passport that wasn't hard to get in to get licence replacement.

Just like anyone else they will have good days and bad, good staff and bad.
