Just been down HW 22, its riding well and only roadworks are on the little narrow bit where the slip was ages ago. Rest is good. Enjoy.
Oh and Peak Road up Kumeu way is shit, new road surfacing that is not swept.

I find that hard to believe. Last time I rode to Raglan a few months, it was such a mess that I haven't been back. The first part south of Pukekawa was OK but after that there were some really shitty stretches, plus loose chips on the resealed part north of the Raglan turnoff.
Might have to look for myself.

Some of the worst parts had been left for years.
I recall reading somewhere that Waikato District Council and NZTA were going to do some work on the road, so obviously that wasn't just PR.
I think one of the problems was it lost its State Highway status some time ago and hasn't been maintained properly since.

Those are the reason for the shittiness mostly

It was a windy ride though there some years ago (06' by the look) poor Raj had a few hairs blown out of place but still looked cool and Draco had trouble lighting a smoke.

Ohautira Rd has an unstable section that varies between gravel (most of the time) to beautiful seal (so rare you're better off looking for a blue moon). Other than that, the road remains a technical piece that should be treated with respect (like all roads).

Sorry, I meant the part of 22 north of the Ohautira Road junction. That was resealed earlier this year but left covered in loose chips. Not fun.
The gravel sections of Ohautira Road were sealed a while ago. I agree, it is quite technical but a lot of fun.

That's Raj, but that's not Fight Club
I don't see any riders crossdressing or stripping firefighter in that pic.

No no not the Fight Club, just a ride out for something to do, not sure where went or came from to be honest, it was a long time ago.
It has to at least 2007 with that 1050 Tiger in the frame and I still had the 995 Sprint.
Apart from those other finer attributes of Firefight, he was a truck driver right?

Firefifghter.
Last time I heard he sold his auckland home and with the money he got he bought the lower half of south island, and some small african countries with the left over.

I am fortunate to own several bikes cruisers, adventure, and sports
It is my opinion it is the bike not the rider that determines the road conditions- to a large extent.
On my GSXR some roads like SH22 I would say are in poor condition, being jarred by potholes and having to slow for corrugated bumps in corners etc.
On my R1200GS BMW these obstacles are of no consequence what so ever. In fact the potholes you hardly feel , corrugations are a breeze, large undulations just get absorbed by the long travel suspension, for which you do not need to slow for.
Not knocking my sports bike, but its horses for courses, to enjoy sports bikes you generally are limited to good roads, adventure bikes like almost any road.
The confusing factor here is that the beemer handles the tight stuff as good as the sports bike.
My cruiser being 350kg also is quite comfortable over the rough stuff but as you would guess you have to slow for corners.
But I love them all for what they are.
Roads are roads, NZTA and local bodies are stretched for cash to fix all roads to pristine conditions.
Remember, We have to build new houses for all the new immigrants. $$$$
