View Full Version : Don't buy a new bike until you see these

Big Dave's October Kiwi Rider post mentioned new suzuki models for 2006, so I went onto the UK site and found these pair. The GSR600 looks amazing, a GSXR600 engine detuned for a naked bike, great specs. Real competition for the hornet, I guess the bandit 600 is gone/going from the new range. Looks a beaut.
And look at the new GSXR600K6, even if you hate sportsbike you have to admit it looks amazing in black, can't wait to see one in the flesh, shame they went for the underseat exhaust. I might have to talk to colemans about a trade-in.
There is also a new Bandit 1200S, which looks like it has had a raft of new changes flung at it, about time to, great bike let down by some poor components.
This is metal porno people, porno for the mind as well as the crotch.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some day dreaming to do :devil2:

I'm relatively uneducated in new and near-new sprotsbikes. What kind of differences will the K6 have as compared to your K4 GSXR600?

Damn, my prejiduce (sp?) against Jinxers might just have to go away now. I like the look of the second bike pic.
BTW dude, I don't see any underseat exhaust on it. That little black box type thing with the slachcut slots under and behind the riders pegs looks like the pipe to me.

Mmmmmm, black GSXR-600...

I checked out the new Bandit, but it wasn't new enough to want to wait. I'll get a new K5/6 now and maybe there'll be a really new one next changeover time.

haven't had a chance to read any of the specs and do a side by side, but right away, there has been a 100% redesign, and if it anything like the job they did on the GSXR1000K5, then there could be a list of component changes as long as your arm, but lighter faster smaller, and now with over 100bhp at the back wheel.

Yeah I noticed its still got carbs, I reckon if that GSR600 sells well, you could see a GSR1000, which might well knock the bandit 1200 out of the line up. Particularly when you consider that the bandit only meets EU2 emissions levels and the GSXR engine will surpasse EU3 levels.

But then it will depend on weight an height O_o

looks like the are putting the GSX6 against the new ER5/6 in terms of looks.

Ya reckon, I don't know looks alot like the Hornet to me, its also the only naked i've seen in a while that would tempt me away from a full faired bike

A gsxr600 has more power and less weight than a 900 Hornet and should in the right hands put one away - straight line or twisties, but your kidding yourself if you think the GSR a detuned gsxr600 is real competition in terms of grunt, useability and ultimately, top speed as well. As the old saying goes "There aint no replacement for displacement." It will probably cost more as well.

This is not a criticism but I reckon you could put the 636 beside that GSXR600 and be struggling to tell them apart, except for the muffler.
And I see Brutale/FZ6 influences in the GSR.
Not much that's really new eh?

Suzuki and Kawasaki do share ideas together, especially in the off-road bike segment. Wonder if it applies to road bikes as well?

Firstly I was thinking of the 600 Hornet, and more about specs then looks, secondly, the GSR Has a GSXR600 engine that has been tuned for bottom to mid range performance at the expense of top end performance. It is a naked bike after all. All of which was implied in the "detuned"

Who said anything about being new (well in terms of reinventing the wheel new, not new new), I agree about the fazer/brutale comparision, but will be interested to see how they stack up against the competition.
I reckon that in the flesh the K6 GSXR and the 636 will be poles apart on the looks department, exhaust aside

No that was my error, when I looked at it first I assumed it did, but on closer inspection, that little stubby black thing by the swing arm is the exhaust.

Second of all... It is 3 kgs lighter than my current K5, it has around 130hp at the crank (matching the ZX-6RR) has larger throttle bodies and a higher seat... There are more things, but thats all i know so far... and what i know so far is mmmm good....

Dude your on crack, the 636 looks nothing like the GSXR - apart from the fact they are both sports bikes. come on, the nose fairing for starters, the cut aways in the side sections, the stubby ehaust, the intergrated indicators into the tail section and mirrors.
these two bikes could not be more different, bet you it'll win its class in a group test and all

June you say, that gives me at least 6 months of saving, once christmas is out of the way. Any idea of how much they want for it, hope they import the black one to NZ.

To be honest the new K6 600/750 almost makes the K5 1000 look plain looking, fuck they look good, real fucken good, the black one is just gorgeous and i'd sell me mum to get one, the black and titainum grey one is sweet as well.
It makes the ZX6R look like a porky tourer, me wants a new 750. Better sell some more pizza's and get the missus popping out babies to sell on the black market, god i hope she has triplets.

For the record that bit sticking out behind the fairing is NOT the muffler. Its the tail pipe the muffler is slung underneath the motor like a buell.

So fkn what, it would'nt be much better with your genes anyway! At least my version would look better, pull better wheelies, go way faster, have more of an education and a better hope for the future, might be a little on the big side of things though.
