Hasn't our "moon man" been saying this for years? - Now it's news! http://beforeitsnews.com/science-and-technology/2016/09/major-earthquakes-may-be-triggered-by-the-moon-say-japanese-researchers-2849704.html?utm_content=buffer370ac&utm_medium=social&utm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Science gets applause - while he gets accused of stirring shit! - Yeah that figures!

You really should read the scientific paper...

First line:

The possibility that tidal stress can trigger earthquakes is long debated

First line:

As usual you are convinced at the first line - no need to read any further I now know it all - normalcy in a nutshell. stick with what works for you I guess!

Not At all. My Critique is not on the content of the paper per-se, but that it paints a very different headline from the one you lead with, You are framing it as if Science suddenly came up with a new theory that someone else has been espousing for a while, with the implication that the treatment of the moon man was unjust.

The reality however is different - Science was aware of this theory and had discussed it (implying a pre-existing level of credibility to the theory), but lacked the research and evidence to validate the hypothesis.

Actually, science has been saying the very same thing for years also.

So it's not only not unique to our moon man, (who I've never heard of) but it's not actually news either.

Oldy, I think you'll find it is not something science has just discovered. It's a theory which has been around for many years, longer than the so called 'moon' so called 'man' has been around I would suggest.

True in relation to the quakes - and at the time he needed smacking.

But his crop planting predictions are popular - and seem to work.

Now if only he'd stuck to that....

John Cambell killed the moon man. Now that was a remarkably poor piece of journalism by Mr C and the start of his decline into NZ oblivion.

yup, the moon mans' long term weather forecasting was surprisingly accurate where as his earthquake forecasting was unsurprisingly inaccurate but did put the shits up a lot of fools

I agree to a certain extent. Campbell basically lynched Ken Ring, shouting at him and giving him no chance to speak. It was an appalling display of journalistic bullying.

Mr Ring has a loyal band of followers, much like "clairvoyants" who also make vague predictions which can later be manipulated. His earthquake predictions, despite usually being on a wide time-frame, are invariably wrong. His weather predictions are laughable, simply basing predictions on NZ's regular westerly patterns of change - on more than one occasion he was caught out changing his predicted weather maps on his website.

In short he's a charlatan who cleverly plays the laws of averages to convince people of his supposed skills.

So... What you're saying is he fits perfectly with the careers of Meteorologist, Seismologist, or Climatologist

...about whom he has been very scornful over the years. Yet he doesn't appear to have any greater ability of specific weather or earthquake prediction.

Not bad for a country with only 4 million people...

But his weather forecasting wasn't accurate! In a country like NZ with weather cycles in the days any prediction will seem accurate if you allow enough margin for error. Like he'd say it's going to rain on Wednesday in 4 months time, and it would rain on Friday and he'd say "look I was only two days out". Well yeah it was bound to rain one day that week and three days is about the most he could be out. He was a charlatan, but he was badly treated by Campbell.

The moon man deserved everything he got, claiming to have predicted the earthquakes and then forecasting specific dates for future earthquakes.

All it did was cause already stressed people to get more stressed, and in some cases spend money they didn't have to leave to town to avoid earthquakes that didn't happen.

Dick.

Same as his earthquake prediction. Predicting in Christchurch where we were having thousands of the fucking things was not exactly hard.
