It doesn't look like anybody's going to talk about their 6hr experience here, which is a shame cos this used to be a really interesting site with the race reports after each event.
Anyway, it was bloody awesome.
All the fast guys were raving about it although I imagine they had some issues negotiating the slower riders like me but I'd say that also contributed to the experience for both parties.
The atmosphere was fantastic, the track, all the organisation, AMCC, volunteers and all the riders were first class, imo anyway.
The over riding sentiment from all is that it's going to get bigger and more competitive. From a selfish view point I hope that doesn't push the slower track day riders out but regardless, it's all positive.
We were lucky with the weather, it threatened to get ugly off and on all day but apart from a couple of brief wet track periods it was dry and, importantly, not stinking hot.
Congrats to the Rees clan 1st .. pretty damned impressive to have dad and two sons at the pointy end, Barnes Jenkins 2nd and RCM 3rd ... all 9 riders are part of our premier national race group and there were more scattered through the field.
Our team came in 16th which, considering our limited collective race experience, was quite surprising .. prolly the old 'Turtle and Hare' scenario thing. We had no issues and quick pit stops which helped.
My tyres got through easily, I think I only used about 30 litres of fuel and my engine is still tiptop ..... plus I felt ok at work on Monday ... although being self employed helps with that bit !!!
26 teams finished, only one DNF, no red flags and ambo stops ( apart from in the first qualifying session on the wet track .. I hope he's ok )
Regardless of all the crap talk that was going on here before let's just clarify that it was not an extreme "Endurance Race" that tests elite athletes and machines to the max.
It was just a bloody good event where lot's of racers had loads of track time without destroying their engines and bank balances, in fact, in racing terms it was really good value for money.
I hope I can do it again next year.
