View Full Version : Temporary import - place for storing the crate

Hello everyone,
I am going to import my Jawa 1968 250ccm smoker in December to Auckland and ride it for one month through the country. I have a crate which must be used for next transport to South America in 2017. Do you have any idea how to find a place around Auckland where can I leave the crate for at least one month?
I would appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Jarda
P.S.: Looking for some NZ Jawa - CZ owners too... :-)

I guess this would be too luxurious option for storing the wooden crate only :-))

Just google self storage places near to where you'll be. Wont cost much for a month.
Furniture removal companies Like Crown relocations or New Zealand Van Lines also offer reasonable-ish short term storage options as well.

...hasn't any of the members up that way got two gluts to sit it on and a warehouse tarp to throw over it to help out an intrepid fellow biker...I would like to think so...

How much could you get renting it as accomodation for the period ?
Relax go2stroke, that's a joke against Auckland, enjoy your visit.

An approximate arrival date would allow me to work out if I could assist. I'm able to transport a crate and there's no shortage of space here but it's not going to work if I'm out of town on business.

If I don't have to worry about moving it for you, you could shove it under my house. Pm me the size of the crate.

Thank you very much for this kind offer!
I will arrive on 30th November and the motorbike should be there too at that moment. However I have no idea how long does it take to go through customs. Is this time OK for you?

Have sent you a PM...
Wondering if Madness might be able to help with transport? - as don't have a trailer or suitable vehicle...
Does anyone have any idea what the process is that Jarda will go through with customs/agriculture and quarantine?

I can help out around 30 November with a large enough van. I live just south of Auckland, in rural Pokeno. I can't offer covered storage but it would be safe here and as mentioned before, a cheap tarp would keep it dry.
I understand go2stroke can't send pm's but I've just pm'd my email & cellphone number to both go2stroke & Moi. I'm sure we can sort something out :niceone:

Yerp, differentiating from urban Pokeno which is expanding daily. We're safe from that here though, trust me.

Thanks to all who offered me help!
My Jawa did today her first 200 kms in New Zealand and is eager to do more :-D
If you spot me anywhere, do not hesitate to wave your hand at me or start a conversation ;-) I am now heading to the south along the west coast. Today staying in Raglan.
See you on the road!

Hello all :-)
Moi suggested me some horrible route through Pipiriki and Mangamahu, so I did it in two last days. Poor Jawa :-D
No, only joking, thanks for the suggestion. Some parts were rough but beautiful.
Now to you in the capital - would any good soul from Wellington be interested in seeing me in next two days...or even...offer me a couch? ;-) ;-)
Cheers

When you head for Wellington I'd suggest you go through the Manawatu Gorge to the Wairarapa and over the Rimutaka Hill... more choice of secondary roads to enjoy then you'll get down the west coast...
Can vouch for Jarda... anyone who wants to tour on a 45+ year old bike must be OK.

Haha loving this thread! How did you go with customs Jarda? We are bringing our bikes in on the 9th of January and have spent over 20 hours each bike cleaning thus far with a few more yet to go. Did you manage to find some where to store your crate? We've contacted a few self-storage places within carrying distance of the port to no avail. :buggerd:
When are you thinking of leaving NZ? Would love to cross paths at sometime!
Safe journey,
Jaz

Hello!
So for me it was after all pretty easy. My agent was/is Jenners directly by the airport. They started on Monday with my carnet, did the customs, bio and NZTA check without my presence and on Thursday was my bike free.
I think that biocheck was not deep at all, there were many things inside my box and they probably gave up to check them :-) But the bike was clean of course.
The crate is now at Jenners warehouse and it will stay there until the departure to South America.
...this didn't help you much, did it? :-/ ;-)
I am leaving from Auckland on 20th of January. I will spend my time between now and 13th January on South Island, one week before departure I will move to North again. Send me a message after your arrival and I am sure we could meet us on the road ;-)
Wish you merry Xmass,
Jarda

Wow, that's great that it was so hassle free for you :2thumbsup It has helped to know they didn't pick up every tiny spick of dirt, thanks! We have (possibly stupidly) decided to not got with an NZ agent and try do that side ourselves. Mind if I ask how much Jenners charged you? They sound really good.
We'll both be in the North Island at the same time, woohoo!
By the way, if you get a chance... Try a Feijoa... Wonderful fruit :)

Hello guys,
just sharing my position :-)
Some really wonderful moments behind me, the best was probably reaching the Homer Tunnel (on the second gear, but yeah!), illegal /no, it is too strong word :-D / overnighting at some places and so on. After two nights in DOC campsites I try to avoid them, too loud in the morning.
No Jawa or CZ in Invercargill motorcycle museum!!! :brick:
Great trip BTW :2thumbsup

If you go back to Westport include a run up to Karamea. Also, while you're in Invercargill, go east and do the Catlins.

My father in CHCH has a collection of Jawa's and CZ's amongst other bikes, if I remember correctly:
1972 Jawa Californian 250cc
1960ish Jawa ?? 250cc
1960ish Jawa motorcross
1974 CZ Enduro 250cc
1968 CZ 360
If you are in CHCH send me a PM and I can arrange a chinwag with my father if you like.

Pity I didn't see this thread earlier then, I suspect he would have liked to see those bikes, considering his fascination with Jawas and CZ's
