After Market Exhaust - Newbie Question

I am thinking about fitting an after market exhaust to my VFR1200x. My question: are the exhausts bike-specific, or can I buy any exhaust and (with the right fitting kit) install it on my bike?

Bike specific mate,quality wise you get what you pay for and ignore many of the inflated hp gains claimed.
