Hi all

Its been a while since I posted anything on here as I have been on the injured list for the last 6 years but I'm back and rearing to go, as we all know what has happened to the South Island in the last 10 days has been disturbing with all the quakes. I see on the news tonight that the township of Cheviot are in trouble as tourist numbers are down about 80% according to the café owner so I was thinking that we could do a run to Cheviot and show our support and spend some $$ there and just show they haven't been forgotten about, I know it wont be a long term fix but it may help lift there spirits a bit as we knows its good when we are thought about so if you are keen then let me know so I can put together a date and organize a few things, at least its not a protest this time. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Fwiw was raised a bit North of Parnassus and was thinking the other day i might pack up the bike and spend some time in Kaikoura over the Christmas break ie every $ helps eh.Count me in for whatever comes of a run up to Cheviot.

That's a nice idea! I presume the leader valley road is closed otherwise that would be a fun ride to Cheviot.

I thought one of the bike clubs would do something, if that's the case I will join them for a ride.

I couldn't make it in the end which was disappointing. I got tied up with other crap, but I managed a late run to Akaroa.

someone has organised this on facebook for this sunday

"We welcome ALL MOTORCYCLISTS to raise money to help in earthquake relief and as a show of support for those affected by the earthquakes in North Canterbury.

ASSEMBLY: From 9.30am in the pub carpark at the BELFAST TAVERN (the PEG) - this is the last pub on the left hand side as you are about to leave Christchurch via SH1.

BRIEFING: 10.30am.
DEPARTURE: 10.45am sharp

ROUTE: Christchurch to Cheviot via SH1 – THE ROADS ARE OPEN AND IN GOOD NICK. Stop in Cheviot for lunch and support the local folks then return to Christchurch in your own time. After-run get together at SMASH PALACE, 172 high Street from 3.30pm onwards. Raffles will be drawn here at 4pm.

COST: $10 donation per person please – or give more if you like! ALL DONATIONS WILL BE SPILT BETWEEN THE HURUNUI & KAIKOURA DISTRICT COUNCILS MAYORAL EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUNDS. Make sure you also bring some cash for the raffles. All prizes are generously donated and if you'd like to contribute it would be much appreciated – please let us know!

This is a great opportunity for Motorcyclists to show the local community that when you’re RED & BLACK – WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK! We are going to Cheviot because they are OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL (Cafes and Gas station all open) but with the route north closed they have no customers. These people are really hurting right now!

Depending on numbers we will run a LAMS group, so if this is your first run – no problem.

ORGANISERS:
Kirsten Vaughan (member of the Canterbury Womens Motorcyclists) 021 & Alf Walker (member of the NZ Ducati Owners Club) 021 .

COME ON PEEPS – GET BEHIND THIS! YOU KNOW WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH & THIS IS A WAY YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE!"

So the run to Cheviot yesterday was a success with a large turnout and $4k raised. The day started wet, but eventually cleared up.
