We normally get this in October, its delayed arrival seems to be lot more nasty pollen and flowers left on trees releasing at once.

Funny you should say that but a knob gobbler on a Harley Ferg was hammering it south on the 1 between Chch and Ashburton on the centre line at about 130 (top speed). Saw him go between two trucks in the wind, was like FUUUCK! I don't think he got squished but he was either very skilled or extremely lucky.

Week before last the truck in front of me was shunted sideways nearly out of their lane by a gust. This was one of the big soft siders, not a light thing.
Thankfully I missed that gust but I did have to stick a knee out and lean in to the one following.
The estury bridges on the southern motorway can be worse than the harbour - the wind gets funnelled rather badly.

Yesterday stuck to left lane of clipon going north as the wind was fairly constant albeit with a few strong gusts so had some room to manoeuvre - kept a good eye on the lane to the right incase I needed that as well...
The bike has full fairings and it would be interesting to do the same trip on a naked to experience if there is difference in how the bike re-acts to the wind - sure to be someone on here who has ridden both and can pass on their experience.
The causeway section of the north-western - between Pt Chev and the end of the Rosebank Peninsula - used to be a bit of fun as well in cross winds... have been across that a few times when being in the lee-ward shelter of a large vehicle - and making sure I was in their door mirror view - has made it easier...

Yep, naked much better in the wind.
Especially cross winds or tail winds.
Headwinds on the other hand can cause a dramatic slowing on either of you are not on a full tuck.

Try riding a Honda 50 stepthrough ChCh- Rangiora in a howling norwester. You could feel the effect of a clump of trees a mile to windward...
Or many years back going to Levels in a Fordson van loaded with bikes - into a southerly gale.
We resorted to tacking into it south of Hinds....

Thanks for that - not having any experience to draw upon I assumed that would be the case.
As for headwinds - a mate rides a Vespa which when ridden into a strong headwind does an excellent impersonation of a Tiger Moth when being flown into a strong head wind... something like a very fast trot!

Bucks on the Ducati will be at 24,000 - belts and valve check. A few years off yet on my mileage . Mind you the price they indicated is similar to the valve check on the Hornet 900 at the same kms . All that work and nothing needed touching - typical bloody Honda. I felt somewhat ...... shortchanged!

Yeah, not unusual for a modern Jap il4.
Valve clearance check for the SDR this time too, but at least there's a big gap until the next one. Didn't ask what the price is likely to be, figured there's no point in getting upset before I need to.

I've ridden anked and faired in strong winds. Nakeds are better to a point. The naked (600 Hornet) was definietely better than my CXB550 with an after thought 1/4 fairing. However, my wife's '80s CBR1000 and my current '06 Katana are both better than naked. The roundish nature of the fairing tends to deflect wind rather than catch it.

Done that stretch a few times in the past. Used to avoid it on the CBX.

And it always amuses me when some holier-than-thou, self-important, know-it-all proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have absolutely no idea of the meaning of the word "CONTEXT".
Live in a city full of wind and a little gale is nothing. We Aucklanders are aware of that. Conversly, live in a city with (relatively) no wind and a stiff breeze (in your terms) is something of note.
If you have nothing constructive to contribute (living in Wellington I would've thougt you'd know about wind) then leave the discussion to those of us that actually do.
