Ok. We currently have a Wellington rule about parking in Pay And Display parks.
Wellington wont allow it due to the display side of the park.
Now they are advertising the new system will be numbered parks with no display ticket. Pay machine and select park number.
Wonder if this will mean bike in car park is ok soon.:innocent:

Parking zones
In central Wellington you can park for free in locations signposted "No Stopping Except for Motorcycles". Check the signage as these vary.
Single-metered car parks
You can pay to use a single-metered car park. Up to two motorcycles may use a car park controlled by a single-head parking meter. You can't use mobility spaces unless you have the right permit. Check the fees and time on the meter.
Other Council car parks
As well as on-street parking in the central business district, you can park in these Council-managed car parks:
Civic Square
Clifton Terrace
Michael Fowler Centre
Where you can't park
You can't park: in pay-and-display spaces as you can't securely attach your receipt for wardens to easily find on footpaths
:at the ends of parallel parks
:by pedestrian crossings.
Illegally parked motorcycles and scooters will be ticketed. Check the parking rules that apply to all road users: Parking Tickets

I don't see why not, you could squish 5 bikes into one of those car parks.
Now that would be interesting !

There is a two bike rule.
How do they know which two are legit?

Exactly.... whoever made that rule up is a genius.
I'm lost for words wrt no promotion of the m/c commute to help reduce traffic congestiony & efficient use of parking allocate in the cbd... as always, it boils down to revenue collection. Not a solution.

May still be an issue, with the sensors they've stuck in the middle of the parks.
I think they work on cars blocking light. Bikes wouldn't have the same effect.

They have had that system here for a few years, there seem to be enough dedicated bike parks that I don't recall ever seeing a bike in one of those car parks.
Thinking about it though I'm not sure if a bike would work the sensor. There is a glass 'bubble' maybe 10 -12cm diameter in the middle of each car park.
Oops pzkpfw beat me to it...

Hard to get a bike park in Wellington sometimes due to the all day scooter and commuter club.
Last time I parked the MV in a bike park a scooter owner got off and tried to squeeze his ride into a gap beside me that did not exist. Had t tell him where he should put his scooter. Just avoid taking it into the city now.
Interesting nobody does that with the m109. Probably afraid ill run there scooter over leaving.

It's almost impossible finding a bike park in the cbd mid-day these days. If I need to shop in the week, I'll do it in the hutt.

I know one good spot off Lambton Quay (Motorcyle, max 2 hours); but apart from that, it can be a nightmare trying to find somewhere to park when I've got a meeting at some weird time.
I so miss just being able to park on the footpath :(
