Duh I broke my helmet.

And the lesson is...don't leave your helmet on the seat, even if you're bikes on the centrestand, even if you now have hard panniers which create a sort of a platform that makes it look like there's no way your helmet could ever find it's way down on to the concrete...IT WILL FIND A WAY.

that's only part of it. can you get parts for that model?
i see a lot of people put them on their tank over the gas cap, after a ride the motor is steaming hot and often heats the gas and it breaths out the vent, not good pumping petrol fumes into a polystyrene lines brain bucket....

I have a habit of placing the helmet on the right hand mirror when parked. Or if the bike has a helmet lock... use that. It amazes me when I see a helmet on a foot rest.

I don't even rest the helmet on the bike when gearing up for that bastard gravity reason.

I have a habit of placing the helmet on the right hand mirror when parked.

I've read that is not recommended. You are resting the weight of the helmet on a small area and that can compress the polystyrene lining over time. That's the same polystyrene that you need to cushion the impact for your head. Pre-compressed polystyrene doesn't work as well..

Having said that, I have used the GPS mount, but it is bigger. If the ground is clean though generally I'll put the helmet on the ground. It shouldn't fall off that.

If I get pulled over by a cop I'll be puting the helmet over the radar detector as fast as I can. But that's different. :whistle:

Generally no, but I've had it happen. Gull Papakura in a strong wind. Got blown all the way across the forecourt. Thankfully I caught it just before it crashed into the curb.

I will often put my helmet on the seat. I put it to the very rear with one wall actually off the seat towards the grab rail. This is very stable. I've even forgotten about it and moved the bike with it there and it didn't move a mm.

Yeah I usually always use the ground, not sure why this one time I decided not to and put it on the pillion with the chin bar up, just to make it extra-specially unstable...idiot. Not worth looking for parts, think I'll just carry on wearing it and pretend it never happened – what could go wrong?

I seem to recall similar threads. Some may have considered the advisability, or otherwise, of replacing helmets that met the same fate.

It's a habit, much like parking a bike in neutral rather than in gear and instructing learners not to ride in single file but they still do it. A little nose to tail/bike or helmet on the ground and things will change soon after.

I used to do that. Until some clown parked their bike to the right of mine ... as after he climbed off, he turned sideways and moved to the front of the bikes. The back pack he was wearing knocked the helmet (and mirror) to the ground.

It now goes in the top box or I carry it ...

Actually I lied earlier, I have put the lid on the rack before, several times, but never on the seat...and the CB had a helmet hook. All three occasions were short photo stops.

That KBC helmet on the CB did end up on the ground some time later so I gave it to local Volly Fire Brigade for their accident practice.
NB: It wasn't me that dropped it.

Doubt it. Ive worked in a polystyrene injection moulding factory - the polystyrene in helmets is pretty high density, enough that the helmet's own weight won't be enough to do anything to the polystyrene.

I place mine in the table Im sitting at when I get off the bike. Seen too many fall from bikes, and I cant afford to buy a new helmet every few months!!
