I have a button on my left-hand grip (1989 Honda CBR250R) that says 'Pass'. It has been suggested that this is a highbeam flashing button but it didn't do that on mine. Does anyone have any idea what this button does? :wavey:

It's for the NOS.

Seriously tho, it should switch the high and low beams on at the same time.

Try a liberal dose of contact cleaner sprayed into the button....failing that take it apart and clean the contacts....or you may even get some life out of it by pressing it hard enough to break thru the layer of oxidization that's on the contacts. Almost every second hand bike i owned had this problem....the button is used so rarely by most riders that the contacts go bad! :niceone:

Pass.

It should act as a headlight flasher.

Sounds similar to a switch in a mate's Lada that turned on a blue light on the dashboard. Other than that, we never found out what else it did.

In many countries, the signal you want/are about to pass someone is to flick your full beam on for a second or two... that button does that (should put both beams on at the same time if you're on dip at the time)

If it doesn't work I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I don't think anyone in NZ would know what the signal meant anyway and would only get pissed off "at the idiot blinding them".

I would get your high beam checked though - if necessary

OOps....yeah first DO make sure your highbeams work via the normal high/low switch....:slap:

Or... it could be the same as the PASS button on the A1GP cars that liberates the extra 20% of power at full throttle. :niceone:

Was it a nice blue light? I mean - that's extra you know... those are the one made by the Siberian Prisoners. They're the only ones that got the special blue light installation training

On the aprilia its also the trigger for the laptimer, when you have that mode selected on the dash . . .

I don't seem to have a lap timer on the RF...

Mine flashes the high beam and opens my garage door.

Nah, my RF didnt have one either ;-)

Man, I loved that bike (altho have to admit I could say that about all the bikes I have owned), nice to ride, comfy for touring, good fairing on it, and a look like no other bike on the road. Same colour as yours too . . . *sigh*

But only during the first few days of the month, and never on Fridays, when the light was merely bunged in the hole, but not connected to anything.
But at least they met quota, even if the cars fell apart when shipped, and lacked unimportant things like wipers, gears, carburettors, drive belts ...

I have a 'Pasta' button on the Moto Guzzi and a faster thingy on the other side but I think it's broken as it seems to be stuck on louder only...

I have it too!! maybe it was compulsory to have it in Japan ??

I find it useful at night to put the lights on full, you need just one finger on and it's easier to remember to take it off when another car in front is approaching.

I've been known to do that too, but I get nervous about leaving it on for too long incase having all four bulbs on at once is a bit much, wiring wise. Anyone know if this is likely to cause problems?

um.... be aware that most bikes are wired so that the high AND low beams are on when you hit the pass switch....so if you are holding it on you effectively have both beams on rather than just high beam when you flick the "proper" high beam switch on. Also when you flick the high beams on with the other switch they are actually powered thru a relay, wheras the pass switch usually powers them directly because it's only designed for occasional use..... Just FYI, don't want ya cooking ya bike electrix! :niceone:

i just use the pass switch to indicate to other road users that they can pull out of side streets ahead of me, because Im a nice guy like that.

However, I might now change that particular line of thinking after a Crofts truck on the Pit-oh-knee esplanade tried to overtake me on the inside yesterday :tugger: while I was indicating for a cager to merge. I invited him to pull over so we could "discuss" :ar15: the issue of common courtesy like real kiwi blokes, but he declined to accomodate my offer. Look out for a bald old fart in a badly smoking red Crofts truck, and flip him the bird from me. :motu:

Its to put your lights on main beam - just like cars have one as well. When you are about to pass someone, you flick the light, it makes sure they know you are there.

Also, you use it at night when you require better illumination, for example, i'll often flick it on for a second if I'm not sure if there is someone down a side street. Most silly buggers only stop at intersections at night if they can see a light from a car, and bikes low beams often dont show up far enough ahead.

More basic road skills they dont teach here.

Thats a definite Mr Skid accessory . :dodge:

More than likely used to fire the jet pack, on those rare occasions when he required ground clearance to leap a ditch or 2. :2thumbsup

The 'pass' button activates the fourth cylinder.

It's the anti-lowside button. Obviously don't work. Ask Skid for a refund.

I use mine for the very same reason, and also for alerting oncoming bikes to the ol'bill sitting round the next corner aiming their little guns :ar15: .

I think you may need to replace the bilitheum christals. Its a common problem with enterprise unit cbr's

Arn't the bilitheum christals quite expensive, maybe I should start a thread to see if anyone has some second hand ones. There would probably be a fair bit of postage on that as well, especially if its coming form outside our galaxy.
