So poor old Nato feels threatened by Russia so they're building up their forces on Russia's borders.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Maybe Russia* is a threat?

Russia = anti America. Katman likes anyone who is anti America because most conspiracy theories come from America and are anti American and Katman is gullible.

If Russia were to launch a pre-emptive strike and smack the fuck out of Nato, I wonder how many here would denounce their actions as deplorable.

What makes you think a launch would make it out of Russia's borders before being destroyed?

Mark Twain said something like,
Those who do not read news papers are uninformed. Those who do read news papers are misinformed.

Nothing much has changed then.

Apart from the threat of total destruction the world seemed a better place when the USSR and NATO were at stalemate. It probably would have been cheaper and cost less lives for the West to have subsidised the USSR and keep the balance of power. It seems more people have died after the Cold War than during?

As Nev once said
How horrible, fantastic, incredible it is, that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas-masks here, because of a quarrel in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing...

I flew on Aeroflot once in the late 80's to Moscow and the then Leningrad, when their ability to mount a war was probably at its peak, and was amazed how 1950's the whole place was.

There is a video clip of the Ukrainians using WW2 Soviet tanks so they wont last long in a Russian invasion.

The 6 O'Clock News and The Herald, more advertising than substance.

I was given a free two weeks of Herald by the AA ( our friends ) and was phoned up the Herald near the end to ask if I wanted to get a subscription, I declined as it filled up my wheelie bin to quickly and you look silly reading one on the train these days.

I remember reading one of Budge Hintz's books in which was detailed his joining an exclusive London club. (The Fly Fishers?) He was described as the Editor of one of the great newspapers of the Commonwealth. That seems a very long time ago now.

If ya economy is reliant on a few large manufacturers, under a fiat system , to reduce or kick the can down the road a bit more , ya need either a dot com bubble , or if all else fails they take u to war , not a big one but a series of small ones

and if one of ur mates aint playing ball , demonise them , demonise them to hell and back. ( works every time !)

History, unfortunately repeats and it does help to know ur history

Did you know that about 33 ad , Tiberius used his personal fortune , in order to stabilize the roman economy , the possibly the only time a ruler has used their own money to QE the supply ( 2000 years later ...hey merica , heres a good idea!)
