I'm finding that my R1200RT makes a terribly non-BMW noise when I down shift from second to first at 120 kmh.
Anyone else having the same problem?

Sounds like the kerfuffler valve needs to be adjusted metrically clockwise.
I didn't know one of those old boats went 120...

They all have a tendency to do it. It's just that you didn't notice on your "company" bike 'cos it wasn't yours :innocent:

Why are you changing down so late?
BTW - "non-BMW noise" is non-expensive noise...

I don't have that problem cos I don't speed :innocent:  but I'd imagine most bikes would protest somewhat doing what you've asked???

Have the MoTec guy look at the auto blipper and the amount of air bleed back into the engine to control the over rev*. What does your GPS- linked traction control tell your data guy? That and get the Ohlins guys to give it a bit less rebound damping and you might get another 1/10th second per lap out of the old girl.

That noise is from the slipper clutch. As it slips off the flywheel and flap-wheels the inside of the bell housing.

My left slipper or my right slipper?
I'm wearing them now and your post has me worrying.

I should have done you a favour and set fire to it when I saw it out at Ruapuna this evening then you wouldn't have had to post this

Are you changing down to reduce speed because there is on-coming traffic?

You need to go on a training course. Even on a racetyrack on that particluar bike that's an incorrect gear selection for that speed.
Far better to just back it in in second and powerslide it through so your not having to change gear mid corner back up to second. Just lay it on its side and dip the clutch and apply more throttle staying in second :)
