If anybody else in Canterbury is interested in giving the dirt oval a crack, it is still a happening thing. More numbers are required to get it back to where we had it running at a level where the flat trackers were being invited to play on a few of the closer speedway tracks.
I have three XL 250 FT bikes that have been sitting in a shed for a while now. They need work and out of the three there would be two ready to race with some time spent on them. I raced one of them as well as an XV750 and I know which one I had the most fun on, on the short tracks that we have to play on.
If someone wanted them and were prepared to commit some time and get out there, I would give them to those who may be interested. The proviso is that they must be raced at whatever events my mates get sorted for the future.
I have just pulled them out of a shed and will post a pic of them later when I get a bit of work done around here.
This is a perfect opportunity for some young chaps to 'just do it', and have a whale of a time for very little effort and expenditure.
Good on you Rob.

There is a spare engine for parts, the red one was a runner but prob a little seized through inaction, the gold one was making a noisy knock the last race it did and the other is a good runner. My son was bored a while back and made it run, it has a sticky oil ring through inaction but a good runner.

Hi! myself and a fellow rider are interested in flat tracking, whats the details??
We have both been riding dirt for years, some road riding. Flat track racing sounds like a blast!
How often are meets and races?
What is the cost per meet/race?
Can we use our own bikes? (although I like the idea of one of the XL250s)
Based in Christchurch, riding most weekends.
Cheers!

...will PM you a phone number of someone who is one of the riders, organisers...they can answer all your questions...to answer the question of how many and how often all depends on getting enough riders doing it consistently enough to get back onto a speedway tracks timetable of events...if you are into it, your input is necessary to get it rockin again...
Is this still happening? Made the phone call about a month ago, maybe more.
Said it was going ahead but never heard back..

re- adjust their pants when it started up!!!!!
rob Selby has a loan of it by one of his clients. it had never seen dirt until Saturday arvo, still had the original tyres and had been fitted with lights and taken for the odd squirt on the road.
will see a little bit of use now and then at different events.
sounded very cool as it fucked off into the distance.:headbang:

...thanks for putting the effort in to come down...you three put on a spectacular show...ft racing downunder, at it's best...track kind of came right, but the hallowed ground of Ruapuna is predominantly a tin top track...you made it look easy but it was everything but...you'll be back...I'm just re-evaluating my racing priorities and after last night's shits and giggles, I'm coming back to the dirt... I gave it away 18 years ago, it seemed like it was pushing shit up hill with a pointy stick to get FT racing a happening thing but more events like that will only do wonders...
...I'm gonna buy a new motor* for an old flat tracker I had 22 years ago, that has been leaning on a shed for 18 years now...Joel in Group 2 who ran an old time piece of shit wasn't far off the best speeds all night...I remember him as a young boy who came out to make up numbers all them years ago...fantastic effort all round to promote the grandest of motorcycle racing forms on the planet...I went out to make up numbers and have a bit of fun and see if the bones would handle the dirt again and all I wanted while I was on track was more horses, cubic capacity and to keep ahead or try and catch up...:niceone:
