Hey everyone,
I'm just about to get my motorbike licence and I'm looking at a couple of different bikes. The two I'm looking at are the Yamaha MT-03 and the Kawasaki Z300.
I've looked at a few reviews and still can't decide what it better. Is there anyone that has ridden both or even has any other recommendations?
Cheers,
Matt

I've ridden the R3 and the Ninja 300 (same engines and as far as I know the same tuning). The Yamaha has the stronger engine, and has a noticeable amount of extra grunt in the midrange compared to the Kawasaki. In the Kawasaki's favour, it has a slipper clutch, which may be beneficial to you as a new rider.
As it's your first bike, I'd recommend whichever one you can find cheaper (or even look at buying a Ninja 250). The odds are that you'll be looking for a bigger bike anyway in a couple of years as you progress through to your full licence. However, if they're both about the same price then try them both out and see which one you prefer.
Whichever one you go with, they are both great little bikes.

You're in a good position if you are choosing between those two bikes for your first.

I was about to ask the same question. New user here, and to bikes. Just got my learner today. I'm going through a similar decision making process.

Thanks for the advice. The Z300 is about $300 more but I'm favouring the MT-03 more anyway. Now I've just got to get one haha.

I've still got to save a little but I think that I will have good options [emoji4]

Any particular reason why you are favouring MT-03? I sat on both and Z300 felt more comfortable fit for me (I'm 6'1"). I couldn't take them for a spin as wasn't licensed yet.

I'm a little bit shorter than that but the MT-03 just felt right. Plus I like the look a bit better which I know isn't the main thing. But it's a factor haha.

I'll try a few more this weekend for foot and feel.

Sat on both the bikes and my knees felt cramped after a little while.
MT-07 / ER-N6 felt much better, but still a little cramped. I might have to keep looking and see what fits.

I would love to get the MT-07 straight up but I don't want to spend 11k on my first bike [emoji23]

Just a suggestion. If you want a bit more leg room have you considered a motard like the DRZ400SM? Not sure if it would fit your requirements at all, but you should find you are a lot less cramped and they would be a hell of a lot of fun to ride.

Yamaha looks the dog dangles, so I'd be going that way if the price isn't much different. Both great learner bikes either way, you are going to get no major surprises riding either so it comes down to what give you more movement in the trouser region.

Funny you say that. I was seriously looking at MT-07 and stubmled upon XSR700. Any thoughts? I like the look, gotta be able to justify the price (or is it an investment in pleasure). They both share the same engine and gearbox.

Bout the same price aren't they? I prefer the MT-07s looks tbh. But its all about what gives you the biggest semi, not me, lol.

Ended up getting XSR700. Just getting used to the bike and impatient drivers on the road. Still early days for me.
