I've just gotten my restricted bike licence, but when I got my learner in February this year I bought an FXR 150, unfortunately I totalled it 7 weeks later, smashing most of the bodywork off, I have had it back on the road for months now, but what I'm wanting to do is convert it to a naked, is that possible with it having the headlamps and speedo built into the front fairing piece? Is there anyone on here who has a successfully converted FXR 150 and has pictures of it? or anyone with helpful information on how I would go about it ie: custom bike parts etc cheers

I'm sure it will be possible although the fairings are a major appeal of the FXR.
Would assume that all it will require is some patience and a bit of work with fabricating some parts. I have never seen any customised FXR's unless you count the many that have half fairings due the crash damage.

Well they are nice bikes with the fairing complete, but all those parts will cost $850, and as Ive been riding it around with no plastic except the front bit, I've grown accustomed to it, and quite like it, and after seeing a Hyosung 250 Comet, think it wouldn't look so bad naked. But I was thinking a long the lines of an analog speedo and a single headlamp bolted to the frame somehow, but I have no fabrication skill so can't visualise how to do it.

Learn as you go along mate. That how I know everything about my bike. This site is great to get some advice at times. I'll be tackling the recent starting problems with my ZXR tomorrow with nothing more than somet tools and some curious nature. Just tweaking and playing around teaches you heaps of stuff.

I'm no expert but it sounds to me that you need a new front subframe suited to support the new instrument cluster as well as your front light and electrics. I sketching stuff up and taking it into a fabricator might be the way to go, or alternatively scour reckers and find stuff that you could use.

Oh damn you mean we have bike fabricators here? I only thought they existed in america

whynot just buy a little accessory fairing/light unit make a couple of simple brackets. Keep the electronic speedo. might cost $150. I think the light fairing things are for streetfighters or motards. Dont look too bad

You could just sell it as a bucket racer, they are in demand. I think you may need to get another headlight as the std one might be a bit hard to attach (but I might be wrong here).

i'D CHECK OUT TRADE ME -- I think youll find theres a shit load of cheap FXR stuff coming up as gius convert em into bucket racers.
That said-It just happens I've looked seriously at converting the FXR to a naked.I have a bracket and 7 inch headlight that with some minor work will fit straight onto the tripple clamps. -on the bracket are tags to mount a pair of indicators. The handlebars have already got plugged off mirror mounts on em
I think what stopped me was to do it justice I needed a dash board cowling otherwise it would just look ugly.-fixable for sure

From the service I got at Filco, they are pretty good, but I still wouldn't prefer them over anyone

Trimming the fairing between the indicators and the headlight may tidy it up a bit.

The key to customising ANYTHING is to visualise what YOU want and go for it. Fuck mates that tell you know, people that say its ugly and hipocrates. You are customising something so why not visualise what you like and go for it.

You may find that no one does customised fairings ect for FXR's so find a spare set and modify them. Change it so that its unique and as long as it looks good in YOUR eyes, thats what matters mate.

Have fun and good luck!

Only thing is, no one wants to part with FXR fairings, they want to sell the whole bike, for me all my plastic body work is going to cost $850, and that's cheap as far as fairings n things go
