View Full Version : How many is too many kms for a Triumph Daytona?

looking at a 2009 daytona,
How many kms is too many?

I'd like experienced answers rather than generic "all bikes last forever if you take care of them blah blah blah"
Objective evidence preferred. I see suzuki GSXRs doing over 100,000kms but never seen a daytona with high kms. Either they're written off (only the good die young?) or they're shiet.

Talk to John at Bikeworks. He knows a thing or two about Daytonas.

Triumph quality has been fine for some time now.

PM manxkiwi on here he's lived with one for a fair while as well as a few track going ones.

if you keep a vehicle long enough, every part of it is a consumable except the engine block.

Strangely framed question. How long is a piece of string?

Triumph reliability is comparable to Japanese products these days.

As mentioned elsewhere, Triumph will be supplying the engines for Moto2 so they better have their act together or it could be embarrassing.

Cheers, might give him a ring later this week :)

Will do, thanks!

Too true. But the engine block can also be a write off at times...

I should have said, "are there any issues I should watch out for"
I'm more concerned that I never see any high KMs Daytonas around.

I wouldn't be concerned that you don't see high km bikes for sale. They are a sports bike, which usually do low km unless used for commuting. Plus there aren't that many of them out there.

The Street Triple has the same engine and there's a 2008 on TradeMe with 61,000 km.

Yep. That's the main reason you don't see many, whatever the milage.

Might be my next bike if I can bring myself to sell the R1!

If it helps: The only Daytona I know has done about 60,000Ks and is currently touring the South Island.

70,000 plus on my tiger 1050 from 2009, damn near same engine I think. Nothing has ever broken, failed, or caused problem. Second chain and sprockets, plus many tyres. Never needed valve shims. Feels like it will do same again. Scrubs up well, no rusty bits ever.

My Daytona (2007) is just about to reach 60,000km and has had no issues, they do last if you put the effort in.

The positive feedback is great. I can't even find any major issues online on forums about the Daytona. Am on the market for one soon I reckon.

Thinking back not so far. There was a question about 955i engines similar to that posed by the OP in this instance. The answers are along similar lines but if he's interested?

Been away from KB for a while and just seen this thread.

Currently own a '14 675 and have put 26k on it since new. Never missed a beat. There's a shed load of 2006/2007 bikes with 50k+ odo's on UK roads. For anything 675 related the UK forum 675.cc is excellent.

Speed 4, 4 Speed Triples and a Street Triple RX, all of them rock solid, not a problem with any of them, admittedly the RX is new but the others all good.
