Check out Cycletrader, it's nationwide. I presume it's a used bike you're looking for (?). Lots of sportbikes in the classifieds in Superbikeplanet.com.

greets from the USA, don't know why you'd want to buy out of New York of all places. Only thing that would be good for is for buying a camera, but never a motorcycle. If it is new, they're gonna rip you a new one with surcharges and fees, and if it's a used bike, it'll be all torn up from salt and chlorine on the road, not to mention the thousands of potholes the size of Alaska!
Buying used, the cycletrader is a good place to start, but if you're buying new....
For example, here in our little town we have a big Harley dealership. Who they sell their bikes too, I couldn't tell you since virtually everybody I know drives 1 1/2 hours to some little town in the next State, and saves thousands of dollars on their new hog!
So it really depends on what you're looking for before I could tell you anything except that for used bikes, ebaymotors is definitely the way to go.
We're all pretty broke over here, getting more broke by the minute with these outrageous gas prices and everything else being affected by them (EVERYTHING is shipped by trucks), so you might get a really good deal on a used bike. Provided you're willing to pay for crating and shipping.

Please let us know how you get on with the trip & the process involved, as I'd be keen to do the same in 18 months time. Bugs, Where is your dealership? I take it they do deals on Buells as well.....

From what others were saying elsewhere, NZ Van lines would be good for shipping & crating back to NZ, and if your trip takes longer than 90 days you can at least claim back some depreciation with customs

Hey bugsonteeth, I thought you guys got really cheap gas? We're up to $1.45NZD per litre (including tax), how much is it there?

Wouldn't you be better doing the trip the other way round (assuming you have the choice?) There will be more rust probs etc on used bikes on the East coast than the West, and presumably you could do better on the resale as a result? Bugsonteeth may know of some US forums you could visit for tips...

Right now in South Florida (North Florida too, come to think of it!) I'm paying about $2.45 / (US) gallon for regular for the VFR. It's freakin' robbery, but not as larcenous as NZ, by the look of it. Have you heard what the oil companies profits are this quarter??!!
