GSXR 750 K8 exhaust

Good day Guys and Gals,

I have a question :facepalm:. I don't feel like purchasing a slip on pipe for my bike ATM as i haven't found one that tickles my fancy (Akropovic megaphone looks good though).

My question is, Has anyone removed the original muffler/tail pipe and gutted the inside to make it slightly louder and freer breathing? Is it even worth it?

I know the Cat is the main contributor for baffling the sound and restricting the breathing but I don't feel like stuffing around with it until I find a slip on I like.

My K9 sounded good with out any muffler. Just put a car tip on it.

If your going that cheap rout just get a sharp long crow bar and wallop it down the centre of the pie with big hammer.
Usually ends up sounding tinny when you do that tho.

Other option is get a sheet metal shop to wrap an outside can of your choice, perforated steel tube down middle, use plates to create three compartments, exhaust packing in two and one empty, works well.

If you gut your stock one you can't use it later if needed for WOF or resale.

If you have a low budget get on to Ebay and start looking for something you could have adapted to fit.

$60 landed will get you, this - sub $100 for a shop to make a joiner pipe, or less if you (or a mate) can weld .....

Lazy. Yes you can get the innards professionally gutted, but the cost would be similar to buying a slipon. It does alter the fueling and while your ECU can cope, it is not optimal. Add a free flowing air filter like a K&N, then your fuel tables will be further out.
Choose your slipon, cut your CAT off, as it is welded to the headers on a K8-10, take to an exhaust shop and get a link pipe made up. Add an air filter and Powercommander PCV. Get it dynoed and mapped. Revel in the weight lost, extra smoother power and fruity exhaust note. Thank me later.

I got a nice surprise with the rsv4. They have the cat as part of the muffler. Handy as. BRRMMM. One swipe and its free.
