View Full Version : AGV or Caberg dealers in Christchurch?

Looking to buy my first helmet and have seen there are quite a few Caberg's and AGV's with 5 star Sharp rating in my price range. I can't seem to find any shops in Christchurch that sell either brand.
Has anybody any experience on where I might be able to find here to try on please?
Thanks

Excellent, I should be able to get the sizing online and get them to send down a few helmets for me to try on!
Thanks!

Try them on and "Test Ride" them ... before you buy them first. It won't matter how many stars they have in their rating ... if they don't fit your head properly.

Emoto in Christchurch was also a dealer who sold all range of Caberg helmets.
Not sure if they are still in business?

Yeah I plan to try them on and make sure they fit well!
Thanks for the Emoto suggestion, it looks like Ye still trade!

If you contact the importer, can't remember his name, you'll find he's extremely helpful.

Would you send somebody you don't know a few helmets to try on? That may be a tad optimistic.
Anyway you are doing it wrong, ignore brands at this point, check your local shops and buy a helmet that fits. Don't worry about the SHARP ratings they are just not *that* important.
It's not like you can do another 20kph around the next corner because your helmet has a five star SHARP rating.

I meant get them to send it to the shop for me to try on. No I wouldn't get somebody else to try them on for me, but I would use the free service they offer of sending down helmets for me to try on, why wouldn't I?
I would rather buy a 5* SHARP rated helmet rather than a 3* rated on if they both fit me well and similar price.

You'll get to try on what's in the shop only generally - unlikely they will order one to try on without a sale - NZ's system is they buy off the wholesaler and stock it ... tough if it does not sell.
As previous people have said - don;t get too brand hung up - do the bike shop rounds on a Sat morning or something and try on different ones.

I suspect that the OP has read the section on the Sharp helmet site about helmet fit being the most important aspect of helmet selection.
I can see his reasoning, if I can afford a helmet that has a 5-star rating and that helmet is the best possible fit then I might as well buy that helmet. If it doesn't fit then he 'll need to look further afield...
As for getting the helmet in, the Caberg importer provides a "on sale or return" policy - http://www.motorgear.co.nz/stockists
And I'm biased, very pleased with my Caberg Duke.

Crikey - that's like customer service in the industry!
Good to know. Print it out and take that page to the bike shop .....

I haven't been in there for a few months but I think Budgets stocked AGV.

I haven't been in the market for a helmet lately but, Trevor pierce yamaha stocked AGV as well.

AGV are a smaller fitting helmet than most but that won't matter if yer trying them on. What that means though is your normal helmet size may not apply.
Some people have touching faith in the SHARP ratings. They are not gospel, they are a guide - and they are flawed. It's possible that situation has changed over the last year or three but I can't be bothered reading it all up again. Some of my helmets have five stars, some don't. If I could only have one helmet it would be one of the Arais which only get three stars, but for my money they are a superior helmet to the five star hats I have.

so it's price that's more important than rating it seems.

Trevor Pierce, Budget, First European, all have AGV.

Thanks a lot for everybody's replies, it's been great having so much input on a very new thread. I've been on other forums that don't get replies like this one!
Regardless of the star rating, Cabergs are very nicely made helmets and are way better than they should be for the price. I've had a couple and they've been comfortable and quiet. Buy a snug fit because the padding quickly relaxes to the shape of your head.

What sort of mileage did you get out of them?
My current helmet is less than 3 years old but greater than 60,000 km and a fair bit the worse for it.

Do not buy for use as a daily all weather helmet.
Rowdy as all hell when windy or wet.
Some materials, screws etc in the lining and moving parts are not up to wet weather use.
The advertised bt unit is useless, and the external control panel not available.
My advice to myself a year ago... find a better helmet or only use it on sunny days.

It works OK for me, but I'd agree that the buttons on the microphone are a bit awkward and take a while to get used to.
I like the fact that it's a sealed unit without any external fittings, means I can leave the helmet lying around no worries.
Seems to work OK but it's the first headset I've had so got nothing to compare.
I'd agree my old Caberg didn't have the best fit and finish.

I was also unable to find a positive review... Even the vendor advised against buying one. Said the distributor told them to avoid selling them.

I might have a newer version? Two buttons on the microphone which do everything (including volume up and down). I think on the box it says it's made by Sena.

It must be awful hard to adjust the volume at speed?

In a word...yes. But it can be done, however only with the right hand too so have to let the bike coast.
