I was in Torbay earlier... the rain was coming "down" sideways... was not fun being on the Zeal... I would not recommend riding, especially over the bridge, the wind is a bugger too.

Stay safe out there guys :spudwow:

That winds really gusting at times, up to 120k according to the radio reports. There have been trees blown down and a big sign has come down across the Constellation on-ramp. Take it real easy out there folks.

I hope this not the look of summer!! :crybaby:

Well I am going to brave the elements..... over the bridge...

But not on the bike.... (hey I aint that stupid) but in my car....

Even my car may get buffered around a bit on the bridge...

*will look out for a bigger vehicle then mine to wind buffer it for me*

Our neighbour had a kauri tree blow down in their backyard this morning. It crushed our fence. It looks like the trunk was part rotten or something. There is another identical kauri (although hopefully with a healthy trunk) left standing.

Oh bugger mate. The fence looks completely munted. :argh: Good luck with clean up.

I'm by no means a fair weather rider but I don't do gales (ala the weather in Auckland today). Crappy little bike is too light and it's just not enjoyable being blown across the road.

Interestingly, the weather warning on the TVNZ site says "Winds of this strength have the potential to cause damage to trees, powerlines, lift roofs and to make driving hazardous, especially for tall sided vehicles." Tall sided vehicles? What about us? :weird:

Tall sided relative to the vehicle width maybe?
Then bikes would be included in the "tall sided" description.

I asked dad about the fence, he said it's actually the neighbour's.

The bridge was fun at 2.30PM, but the cages were blowing around more than I was. The worst part was that Prime was off the air, I missed the motorsport. Bugger!

Don't let the the local tribe see the tree or they'll claim it. Should still be some good timber in the old tree. Hunt down a furniture maker and sell it to him, as he'll get it milled. Pissing down here, but still gotta ride to work later.

Easy, just waited for the hail to stop dropping and melt. I find hail falling onto a helmet for five minutes gives a really good headache and bad hearing for a period. Find cover and wait a few minutes.

Then just cruised along being mighty more careful on corners and areas of differing patch and paint. Got to work easily enough, to find power surges running through the network causing serious issues.
Later that night, managed to luck in only a light shower and low wind, get home hang up wet gear, snuggle to bed, wake up dry gear, start over.

Most of the time it isn't the weather that worries me, just the other road users. I had people passing me in Remuera Tractors doing 70 in a 50 zone.

No decent timber in that tree - only a ricker.
As me grandpappy used to say - only kauri worth milling is one over 300 yrs old!

Had to ride back home from Bucklands on Saturday with the missus on the back and full pack rack (had no choice) wasn't too bad really. managed to avoid all but 3 brief showers (stopped at talisman in katikati for a couple to let a couple of heavy ones pass).
I don't mind the wind too much, makes the straights a bit more interesting. at one stage doing 120-130 along a straight with the wind behind us i lifted my visor as the air felt almost still, more like we were doing about 50k.

Any day on the bike's a good day.
