View Full Version : FMF - noisy!

Hi all,

I have a 2010 DR650 that came with an FMF exhaust. It's LOUD, and I'm sure that's to be expected, but after over 15000kms on it, my ears are looking for a new owner (and that's with earplugs!). Not to mention everyone at the campsites looking at me sideways when I ride in.

I can't figure out if the FMF originally came with some sort of baffle - all I see is a black hole when I look down it. Any chance there's something I can install that with not affect the air/fuel/exhaust ratio, but will make it a little quieter? I've even had the cops tell me to change my exhaust. I have no idea what I can purchase, and I don't know the exact model of the exhaust...

Thanks!
Ryan

When did you last repack it?

+1, repack should work wonders.

Thanks guys - forgive my ignorance I've never repacked before, so I'll definitely give that a go first!

Expect mess - old packing will be stuffed with soot. Get newspapers down over the floor.

Also get your safety gear and wear everything before starting - I'd suggest overalls, mechanic's disposable gloves, and respirator masks rated for fibreglass mats. Safety goggles might be a very good idea too. Fibreglass strands will go everywhere, unfortunately it's just the nature of the stuff.

Some dickhas probably pulled the baffle end out of it. Send it to a bike muffler manufacturing company and ask them to repack it and quieten it.

Courier to Cycleworks in Wellington is a decent option.
