Gsf 250 loss of power and won't start

Was rideing bike and started to hear a weird rubbing sound when I took power off. Had to keep going as was on motorway, bike then lost power, managed to get off to safe area. Thought it might have been fuel but had half tank. Tried to start and turned over twice and and then nothing. All lights etc cut out now like a dead flat battery. Am not a mechanic so have no idea what went wrong. Any ideas what may have happened?

Still got oil in it? Hope so...
Try jump starting it off another battery. If it turns over try to figure out where the odd sound came from and take it from there. If you can't hear anything wrong, and especially if it starts and sounds good, then chuck a new battery at it and it's all good.
If it wont turn over or sounds all weird and rattly or starts and runs badly... get more advice...

check for fuel at the cylinders. first thing would be blocked tank breather. then carbs.

then chain tension.

and i'd be making sure it wasn't fuckeroo BEFORE cranking it and potentially doing more damage. COULD be fucked stator/reg/rec. COULD be blown head, fucked cct, valves...

check oil and turn over by hand, listening for abnormality.

If the charging system is fucked ... it would run until (nearly) all the power in the battery is drained. Then it's lights out (literally).

If jumper leads give you power and can be started ... get the rest of the electrics checked.

Start with the simple stuff first ... and I hope you get lucky ...

If you got a chinese one off ebay then it could well be.

Oh. Stator huh. Did you change the battery at the same time? Once upon a time I didn' t, and found out that a worn out battery can fuck a new stator...
And was it bolted in nicely? With locktite and stuff? Hopefully the strange noise was just the engine losing power at high speed, and not the new stator trying to find a way to get out of the engine case...
Might pay to whip the side cover off and just see if everything looks cool before you do anything else

It wasn't a Chinese one, imported from Suzuki Japan (at great expense mind you)

Will have another look at battery and see if it is a old one.
