And in contention for one of the longest periods of time listed

I agree but think it could be remedied a wee bit. It is low km's and all tlr goodies. Might be a fun bike to ride?...

They're fucking awesome to ride. But that one? Steer clear. Better to have anal warts.

Right then, next question, is there a big difference in power and handling from the tlr to the tls? Worlds apart or just a bit of an edge?

Laava
17th June 2017, 14:26
Funny isnt it, what catches your eye sometimes...I love the sound and power of these v twins, but only from riding v stroms and sv's. anyway before I started this thread I asked the guy for some better photos as these ones are old now and the bike was wet. He can't be arsed. Not trying very hard is he? Anyway I have a 990sdr in my sights atm...

I had a 990SM... hooligan toy. Watch out that 6th is only usable above ~130 ish, I re-tuned and re-geared it, so it made 6th usable around 110-120... 3rd gear power wheelies :oi-grr:

I still find myself looking at the v2 Tuonos, 2nd gen. God they sounded good, but then you remember what you're paying (10k ish) for no ABS or anything AND Italian electrics and maintenance... still, that sound

Yep, that is on my watchlist!

I find the 990SDR a bit cramped.

The SMR/SMT is a great machine, although all of the 990s are a bit snatchy on the throttle off idle.

If I had the time for a project I'd be looking to buy an SMR/SMT, arsehole the 990LC8 and install a 1290 from a deceased SDR.

Cool, thanks for that Mark, cramped is part of the reason I sold my gixxer 750...

Not a bad streetfighter effort I reckon (nice phat arse with big pipes), and a good model to start with.

I'm 6'2", with dodgy knees, you might be fine with it, worth a try if there's a good deal going.

You're the first person to say anything positive about the tlr, but the owner is too lazy to do the right steps to make it sell...My biggest problem is getting it checked out before the haggling process can start. That and the worry that Crasher will probably shoot me if I buy it!

Yeh I've been told I have shit taste :bleh:

Is he anti test ride or something? wof when sold, just go round there and kick the tyres, haggle him down for every little bit which is not up to spec, and figure out if he is a rough cunt or actually worth buying off in the process.

A fraction of the price of your penis to vag mod though eh. Still, be a nice tight wee vag.

Knew I shouldn't have let your mother tongue my arse.

You would want a huge check over of it. The welded top clamp on the forks is enough to put me right off.

good spotting, although, that mod IS actually listed on the cert plate in the next photo, so one assumes the appropriate hoops have been jumped through to make sure it's legit

To be fair its not something I would like to assume. Having my handlebars attached to the bike while Im riding it is a requirement.

If the two parted ways, life could get exciting.

What I don't get about the bar conversion is - go to the effort of setting up alignment and welding the risers on but do it for skinny shitty little chrome 22mm bars.

Fatbar that bad boy.

I guess with shitty bars, a low speed drop you might get away with just folding the bar, fat bars on welded risers you could end up shearing a fork... or just having the bar hook up and chernoble the fucker.

Any Cunt...putting high handle bars, on a bike like this...needs rooting in the arse. Go and buy a bike that's supposed to have 'em. Cunts.

I like em a little bit more practical :bleh:
The pics are a particularly nice one that popped up on TM a few years ago
Have somewhere a TLs article on the bike that cleaned up the 1st season of Formula Extreme in Aussie.
I actually do like them a lot, ridden both versions & been offered a couple times rides on 98's beauty but been pickled each time so declined :pinch:

The TLR I rode felt similar to my old ZXR....more sitting on it than in it and a church pew seat, but have read articles where they say the TLR has a level of competency for some long haul riding that is more than a lot of people expect

I have i think the first and last PB project bike articles somewhere
I always rather fancied havng one of them (TL1000R) they always somehow manage to look far better then the very similar styled GSXR.

Just a bit small for me physically to be practical, would've been alright a Sunday morning medicine bike :devil2:
