It's time for kiwis to get serious about motorsport, the headline says, yet not one word about motorcyclists doing it around the world who far outnumber the four wheeled variety

Problem has long been that generally we don't have sports journalists, we have rugby and/or cricket commentators. Occasionally you will even hear them boast about how little they know about some other sport thereby, to my mind, demonstrating their lack professionalism.

Keith Quinn was an exception, he read up on a wide range of sports because apparently he regarded that as necessary to his calling. More of them should follow his example.

On motorsport specifically, there is a small segment on Newstalk ZB about motorsport, but evidently "motorsport" does not include motorcycling?

There's a thing. Fuck all of our "sports journalists" know the first thing about yachting, despite it now being quite a number of years since KZ7 went to Fremantle. It's not as if they haven't had an oportunity to learn.

Another thing, the standard of rugby writing has deteriorated, now seemingly absorbed with provocative statements to serve as click bait.

Most sports stories I read are filed under the "Other" category.

Old Brucey made it onto the telly last year when he came over for his medal.

Sure it's newsworthy.
That doesn't change the fact that hardly any of the general public give a fuck about motorbike related stories otherwise it would be in the news.

If Gary Glitter or Rolf Harris was presenting the medal more people would have watched.

Don't think either of them ride bikes. Kids yes.
