I thaught I had seen it all...

This guy took his rg another step further. These two puppies are up for sale on this dutch microjet website.
My project in coming years will be to make the worlds first (that I know of) microturbine powered RC car :D which should be challenging and fun.
And one day get a decent sized jet engine and mount it onto the back of a bike :devil2: - seen it done (dual) with go-carts.

Interesting. The craziest thing I ever saw was a drag race go-kart with a rocket motor on the back. The driver sat with a fuel tank either side.

might be less hassle in just getting a bigger bike than the one in the pictures?

one of the guys at work has a fan powered A10, and is building a scramjet powered drag truck that should be good for 130/140k or so. the A10 is just scary.

remember seeing a B-52 model that had 8 engines similar to those puppies... flew really well too, till the dude fucked up and killed a $10,000, 50,000hr project in to a flaming heap of bent microjet engines and flaming nitro-meth model fuel!

I think Thailand has max of 125cc/150cc or something like that, so drastic measures are needed to go faster than 140ish i'd say.
These engines make 19kg of thrust each - a ZXR250C makes something like 25kg-m... dunno what the conversion is but it probably is a torque force instead of a thrust force. I wouldn't bother on a 250 really, but it would help. Get a busa and then try with some large micro jets in a streamlined rear cowl.
Just the sound would be worth it! (and the wank factor)

25kg-m...
 wtf sort of zxr do you have...
they make 25nm torque, about 2.60kg-m

Sorry... 2.5 kg-m... fucked up the conversion. > 25.49Nm
But still.. 38kg thrust would help push any bike along.... (just a 'little' )

no you looked at the manual which has it printed as 2-5kg-m and fucked it up, fuck its a sad day when I own your maths, go back to school ... BROZ

Scramjet --Supersonic Combustion Ramjet
Is he planning to orbit?
Cos it won't operate at subsonic velocities

Why nitro?
There is no reason not to run any GT engine on kero or diesel

sorry - brain fade. i meant RAMjet. even cooler, is that it runs on LPG

could be useful for the tailgaters, light their way a bit more, so its easier for them. Yes, closer, closer, BABOOOM! muhahahaha!
I saw something on discovery channel a while back when they made a 50cc rocket and strapped it to a bike, cruising at 20-30mph with the sound of a jet warming up. absolutely beautiful....

did the microjet says (air start)?
Huh?
Air start (if they don't have big cone shaped things by the front then they are not autostart with electric motors) is usually done with a power drill or something like that, outdoor petrol blower vacs can be used too.
Auto start would be good on a bike... imagine starting them up next to a boy racer muahahaha... they would shit themselves!

When I was a youngun I always wanted to make pulsejet powered model aircraft - unfortunately I was not in the financial league to be able to replace the rubber-band-powered model my mum trashed (the kit had been a gift and it was almost completed) Simple balsa gliders were about the limit of my budget. Always woanted to have radio controlled planes - especially the jet-powered ones.
A jet powered (or assisted) bike sounds like fun but I dunno about cornering - I'm guessing that it would not corner too well under full jet thrust.

Like Harleys-all straightline power and no cornering ?

ive got a welder and too much spare time. who thinks I would make one that works and who thinks I'd blow myself up.

Surely the only practical way of powering a motorcycle with a jet engine would be to use a jet turbine, like the Y2K. The turbine in the Y2K is typical boys toy overkill. I'd love to see what could be done using a sensibly sized engine of maybe 150-200 hp hooked up to a gearbox. In theory the thing would be light as, but I guess the problem would be the slow response time of a jet engine.

my first one will be top the following spec, hopefully will be able to run it off LPG or possibly butane.

I reckon it could be hooked up to some sort of budget (rotate the whole motor not the tip) thrust vectoring quite easily, either mini hydraulics or servo powered. - then that baby would turn almost as good.

Anyone know how fast the Y2K actually went? (Top speed, 0-100 etc)
Would be similar to the American Abrams M1A1/2 etc tanks which have 1600hp turbines with trannys hooked up, and all those national flights around NZ are usually turbo prop saabs. 'Jet lag' for those (mini) sized motors would be about 5 seconds from idle to max and a little bit less to get to 70%. With rpm's of around 70-100,000rpm you wouldn't want to screw a gear change though, and leave a huge pile of shredded metal that used to be a gearbox and engine ;)

Another name for these things is an Athodyd
Which is a contraction of Aero Thermodynamic Duct.
If anyone was wondering that it looks suprisingly like a two stroke expansion chamber,It's no coincidence, because the operational theory is exactly the same.
If you like noise this is the one to go for

A bigger problem might be the slow no-response time. They keep going for a while. Quite a while.

Find a road test of the Y2K,you'll read what a total piece of shit it is as a motorcycle.
A better configuration would be a small gas turbine starter motor that some fighters used.(someone put one on a kart and did 250kph)
These weigh under 50 kg and develop 100 hp.
Use this to drive a high efficiency electric generator and motor transmission
