View Full Version : '71 Triumph engine work - recommendations in Otago area?

My T100c engine needs a freshen up. Compression is low and performance is down. It runs okay but lacks the punch it should have.
Anyone got any recommendations for old Triumph engine work around Central Otago? Hopefully just a rebore to +20, maybe a crank grind while I'm in there. I'm going to pull the motor out anyway to paint the frame etc.
Also need some welding done on a 500 head that has cracked around the inlet valve ports. It'll need to have the seats recut so I want someone who knows what they're doing and has the right gear.
I know I can ship it away but I'd rather meet the person doing the work.

Ask Eric Swinbourne at the Naseby garage if he's interested.

why does every rebuilt triumph feature in their add, just bored out and reground the crank, is it habit or needed?

The rebore is needed. The grind may or may not be.
Thanks for the tip Grumph

Reconditioners are taught that if a crank is more than a thou or two out of round on a journal, grind it...
Most pom twins will do high mileages on cranks that a reconditioner would shake his head at.
Partly it's a case too of "lets do it while it's apart as I'm scared of pulling it down...."

It won't be ground unless it's bad enough. There was no up and down play in the big ends last time I took the top off but that was ten year ago.
It's time to check the sludge trap anyway. Don't think the cases have ever been split.

Yup - and they then ignore all the shit that does actually need doing....
We have untold miles on our TR6C and the crank is still std - the bore on the other hand ..... cough

Another lead, thanks all. Currently in Queensland getting the funds organised. Should be home before Christmas and I'll get in touch with those guys.
