Took the wife's car in for a warrant yesterday. Not warrantable...
At some point in the last year of ownership, some dickhead has put it on a hoist and failed to use the correct load points.
Result - crushed sills on both sides. Damage is about 500mm long and the sills have been distorted inward.
Taking it to a chassis straightening outfit today to see if they can pull it out. There's a big seam to grab onto.
The setup on this thing is that there is side trim which makes looking at the sills a down on your knees job so it's been hidden.
It's been to a painter for a touchup and a tyre place for rears in the last year. The painter is actually part of a dealership for this brand so I'd doubt it was them...
So beware of cowboy tyre outfits.
It's going to have to be an insurance claim - so there goes the excess. I'd doubt if the insurance co will be able to pin it on anyone as it will be denial all round.

Golly that socks. Wonder how many cars are driving around with that damage.

Quite typical really. Let's charge you $95 per hour for labour and then get the $15 per hour 17 year old to learn by his mistakes on your car :brick:

Vickis car has a big arsed dent under the drivers sill - cant be seen from the outside, pretty sure its not from an impact as the paint is sound... Yup - plenty of cowboys out there..

Well in theory they'll find out at the next warrant. It's major structural damage. But I'd have to say that the longer intervals between warrants make finding a culprit nearly impossible now.

and the moral of the story is: don't be a uteless bastard. unibodys are for blouses. chassis for men.

More likely a floor jack than a hoist causing that sort of damage, a hoist will lift on 4 points evenly, a floorjack loads one point, and lifts in an arc. I've been using 2 post hoists since the '70's, and the only sills I crushed have been rotten.

Nah - both sills, same point in the wheelbase. Unless the idiot used a m'f big beam on a floor jack to do both sides at once, it's a hoist. Missed the correct jack points by about 300mm. It's a porky bastard too. 2000 Estima.
Insurance co don't show any interest in tracking the culprit. Price looks like being somewhere over a grand but less than two. Turnaround probably a week once it's in there. At least there's no major paint to do so it's fairly quick.

Photos please - I've had countless Estimas up on a 2 post, I can't see how you could damage the sills...unless they lifted on the outer panel part. Sills are the lift point on most vehicles. But on an old Estima I lift on the rear control arm mount, and on the front outrigger.

Estima eh,was it full of islanders when it went up on the hoist

In Canterbury they're a middle class white family car....
I was not aware car insurance covered damage made by mechanics. You would think the public liability insurance of the garage would have to cover it if you could find the garage.
Fuck off you.
If it's dry enough here tomorrow I'll see if I can get a decent pic to satisfy Motu - though I don't really care if he is....

pity that, as it would be a good chance to see whether it was the painter when they fuck it up again....

My evening is starting to blur nicekly. You have crushed seams?
Most of the cheap imports I've owned had been slung onto a ship, crushing the seams where the were lifted, by straps or fork lift. Never had a WOF issue.
In principal I would be trying to get some responsibility from the vandals.
