refurbing a bike (cheaply). Want to change from stock seat to flat brat style seat. options are

(a) get a cheapie off ebay/aliexpress and try to mod
(b) take the existing seat, reshape and reupholster.

Anyone had any experience with either of these? I can imagine modding and ebay will be a real ball ache. I'm interested in the cost of upholstering (cheap not full leather etc - its a bike to doss around on0.

cheers

Put your original seat on a shelf at the back of the shed and buy another one to practice on. I had a seat reupholstered by a proper bloke once and it turned out to be a cock up, had to redo it with different foams and reshape it heaps. So even the experts get it wrong. And sooner or later you might want to bring it back to original...

Anyway, don't you just need a bit of ply and black vinyl for a brat seat?

Try MacDonald motor trimmers in Tauranga. They have a web site. Not cheap but a good job done by these guys.
